About Me

Hello! I'm Katey. I'm a Forest School trained, OFSTED registered childminder with a background in alternative approaches to education. I work from my home in N8.

I think the best way to describe my approach to care is holistic in the sense that I approach things thinking about the whole child - emotional wellbeing, physical wellbeing, and social wellbeing. My intention is to make sure that children feel safe, contented, and valued as individuals.

I think that good care is quite simple. I provide a warm, happy environment, fresh and comforting food, and conversation. I love talking to children (or miming with very little ones). Children are very perceptive. I think that if you give them the confidence that they will be listened to and that their voice is important, you build strong a relationship based on respect for one another.

I most recently worked in a childminding setting as a Nursery Manager. I have also worked in mainstream education and Spain as an English teacher. I have experience looking after children of all ages. I'm very comfortable looking after newborns, toddlers, and primary aged children.

In addition to my childcare and teaching qualifications, I am also Forest School trained. My training cemented what I already knew to be true- nature is incredibly important for children. I love spending time outside in all weather and I think most children do too. We live in a world that can be over-stimulating. Allowing little ones to spend time in the woods using their imagination (without too much interference in the imagination department from us adults) is vital for children’s development. Forest School sessions involve anything from building bug hotels to dragon hunting. Often they are undirected, which means the children get to feel the sense of freedom that is often lacking from modern childhood.

I have a keen interest in yoga and nutrition and this is fed into my approach to care. I ran informal mini yoga sessions in my last setting ( I have no qualifications in this it was more improv) but the children really enjoyed trying to mirror my movements or sounds. The food I cook is homemade, I can cater to all dietary requirements (veggie, GF, DF, etc).

Please do get in touch if you would like to chat.

Katey looked after our 10-month old son and I can't recommend her enough. We needed help at short notice and Katey was available and prompt with communication. It's clear she is used to looking after little ones! Reuben settled with her really quickly. Katey was kind enough to send us updates through the evening. Thank you Katey!
