About Me
About Me
Hello! I’m Jemma Spanswick, an Ofsted-registered childminder based in Lower Compton, Calne. I live with my two wonderful children (aged 13 and 10), a friendly Labrador, and two cats. We’ve proudly called Lower Compton home for over 11 years.
I’ve been Ofsted registered since January 2020 and hold an Enhanced DBS check, providing peace of mind that your child is in a safe and secure environment.
My Setting
I provide a warm, friendly, flexible, and home-from-home setting where children are encouraged to feel safe, have fun, and grow through play and exploration.
Outdoor Play
My enclosed garden is a favourite with the children. It includes a variety of role play areas such as a vets, nursery, hairdressers, workshop, and doctors, which encourage imaginative play. There are also ride-on toys, a playhouse, toy kitchen, chalkboard, and a wide range of other outdoor toys to support active and creative development.
Indoor Activities
Indoors, we have a dedicated playroom filled with high-quality toys and resources – including wooden and plastic playsets, puzzles, construction toys, and role play materials – all designed to support learning through play.
Reading & Creativity
Reading is a big passion of mine. I read to the children every day and provide reading books to take home twice a week to encourage early literacy and a love of books.
We also enjoy plenty of craft and messy play activities, giving children the chance to explore different materials, express their creativity, and develop fine motor skills.
Outings & Local Adventures
I love taking the children out to explore the world around them. We regularly visit a variety of local places that help build confidence, curiosity, and social skills. These include:
• Studley Grange Butterfly World
• Jubilee Lake, Rowdey Cow, and Whitehall Garden Centre
• Drews Pond, Savenake Forest, and Coate Water
• Hope Nature Centre and local parks
• Soft play centres and Bubs & Brews Play Café
• Town visits to feed the ducks and explore
• Toddler groups and playdates with fellow childminders
• Local nature walks and seasonal outdoor activities
Qualifications & Safety
• Ofsted Registered (since January 2020)
• Enhanced DBS Checked
• Fully insured
• Trained in Safeguarding and Paediatric First Aid

My Experience
My Experience
Before becoming a registered childminder, I spent seven years as a stay-at-home mum, gaining invaluable experience in nurturing and supporting young children through all stages of early development. This time helped me develop a deep understanding of children’s needs, routines, and emotional wellbeing.
I also worked as an assistant to a fellow childminder, where I gained hands-on experience caring for children in a professional childcare setting. This role gave me fantastic insight into what it means to care for other people’s children with the same level of attention, patience, and responsibility as my own.
These experiences gave me a strong foundation, both personally and professionally, and helped shape the warm, child-focused approach I bring to my own setting today.

Our eldest was with Jemma for three years, and as soon as I was pregnant with my second I reserved her place at Little Buddies! We feel very lucky to have Jemma in our lives, she's just wonderful with the kids, easy-going, flexible and informative for us as parents, I simply could not have asked for a better child-minder experience. The number one thing you want as a parent leaving your precious littles is to leave them with someone trustworthy, and we've just been incredibly lucky in finding someone I know our children are going to be safe with. It's just an added bonus that they also have the time of their lives, are constantly learning, and are being nurtured into kind, polite and considerate people through Jemma's compassion, skills, and hard work.

Thank you my lovely x
Have been going to Jemma since my little girl was 1. We are a year in and the bond Jemma creates with the children is unreal, no child is excluded and is treated as if they are her own. My daughter asks everyday if we’re going to see Jemma and sometimes refuses my help if her ‘Jem Jem’ is in the room!! I dread the day we leave for school
