Jemma
Childminder in Lower Compton
My Summary
About Me
About Me
Hello! I’m Jemma, an Ofsted-registered childminder based in Lower Compton, Calne. I live with my two wonderful children (aged 14 and 10), our friendly Labrador and two cats. We’ve proudly called Lower Compton home for over 11 years.
Since becoming Ofsted registered in January 2020, I’ve been dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment where children can play, learn and thrive. I hold an Enhanced DBS check, am fully insured, and have up-to-date Safeguarding and Paediatric First Aid training, giving families confidence that their children are in safe hands.
My Setting
I offer a warm, welcoming, home-from-home environment where children can simply enjoy being children. Every day is filled with opportunities to play, explore, laugh, make friends and discover new things, with learning happening naturally through those experiences.
I believe childhood should be full of adventure, curiosity and happy memories. Whether we’re splashing in puddles, baking together, creating masterpieces with paint, exploring a woodland trail or discovering somewhere new on a day out, I aim to make every day exciting while supporting each child’s learning and development through the EYFS.
Every child is unique, so I take the time to get to know their individual interests, personalities and needs. This allows me to provide activities and experiences that help them grow in confidence while learning at their own pace.
Outdoor Play
My fully enclosed garden is one of the children’s favourite places to play. It features a variety of imaginative role-play areas, including a vets, nursery, hairdressers, workshop and doctors’ surgery, encouraging creativity and storytelling.
Children also enjoy ride-on toys, a playhouse, outdoor kitchen, chalkboard, water play, messy play and plenty of space to run, climb, explore and simply have fun. Outdoor play is an important part of every day, whatever the season.
Indoor Play
Inside, children have access to a dedicated playroom filled with a wide variety of toys, games and resources to suit different ages and interests.
Whether they’re building with blocks, racing cars, completing puzzles, caring for dolls, enjoying small world play, dressing up or simply using their imagination, children are free to choose activities they enjoy. Alongside everyday play, I also plan fun experiences such as crafts, baking, sensory activities and seasonal celebrations that naturally support their learning and development.
Reading & Creativity
Reading is at the heart of my setting. We share stories together every day to encourage a lifelong love of books, language and imagination. Children are also able to borrow books to enjoy at home twice a week, helping to strengthen the partnership between home and my setting.
Creativity is encouraged through arts and crafts, painting, drawing, messy play, music and imaginative activities, allowing children to express themselves while developing confidence and fine motor skills.
Outings & Local Adventures
One of my favourite parts of childminding is getting out and about. I believe some of the best learning happens beyond the front door, so we regularly head off on adventures to explore everything our local community has to offer.
Whether we’re searching for bugs in the woods, feeding the ducks, visiting animals, enjoying a picnic, meeting friends at a toddler group or simply going for a nature walk, every outing provides opportunities to learn, ask questions, build confidence and create happy memories.
Some of our favourite places include:
• Studley Grange Butterfly World
• Jubilee Lake
• Rowdey Cow
• Whitehall Garden Centre
• Drews Pond
• Savernake Forest
• Coate Water
• Hope Nature Centre
• Local parks and nature walks
• Soft play centres and Bubs & Brews Play Café

My Experience
My Experience
Before becoming a registered childminder, I spent seven years as a stay-at-home mum, gaining invaluable experience in nurturing and supporting young children through all stages of early development. This time helped me develop a deep understanding of children’s needs, routines, and emotional wellbeing.
I also worked as an assistant to a fellow childminder, where I gained hands-on experience caring for children in a professional childcare setting. This role gave me fantastic insight into what it means to care for other people’s children with the same level of attention, patience, and responsibility as my own.
These experiences gave me a strong foundation, both personally and professionally, and helped shape the warm, child-focused approach I bring to my own setting today.
My Qualifications
Training & Qualifications
Providing the very best care for children is incredibly important to me, which is why I am committed to continually developing my knowledge and skills.
My core qualifications include:
• NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare
• Enhanced Safeguarding Training (renewed annually)
• Paediatric First Aid (kept up to date)
• Level 2 Understanding Autism
• Level 2 Autism Awareness
• Level 2 ADHD Awareness
Learning doesn’t stop there. I genuinely enjoy continuing my professional development and regularly complete additional training in my own time to further develop my knowledge and improve the care I provide.
My ongoing professional development covers a wide range of topics, including communication and language development, early literacy, learning through play, positive behaviour management, children’s emotional wellbeing, supporting children with additional needs, working in partnership with parents, Forest School-inspired outdoor learning, food hygiene, online safety, and many other aspects of early years education and childcare.
I believe there is always something new to learn. By continually investing in my own professional development, I ensure my knowledge remains current while providing the highest quality care, learning opportunities and support for every child and family in my setting.

Fees & Funding
I believe childcare costs should be simple, transparent and as stress-free as possible for families. That’s why my setting is fully inclusive, with no hidden charges, consumable fees or unexpected extras.
My hourly rate is £6.50 per hour, with payment made monthly in advance. I offer Government-funded childcare, Tax-Free Childcare and accept all major childcare voucher schemes.
Whether your child attends using Government-funded hours, unfunded hours or a combination of both, you will only pay for any hours that are not covered by funding. These payable hours may also be eligible for the Government’s Tax-Free Childcare scheme, which can reduce your childcare costs by up to 20%, saving you even more money.
I’m always happy to support families in understanding the different funding options available and help ensure you are making the most of the support you may be entitled to.
To make life as easy as possible for parents, I provide almost everything your child needs while they are with me, including:
• A Little Buddies book bag to use throughout their time at my setting
• Reading books to borrow and enjoy at home three times a week
• A daily diary to keep you updated on your child’s day
• Any artwork and creations to bring home
• Nappies, wipes and nappy cream
• Sun cream
• Healthy snacks and drinks throughout the day
• Setting waterproof coats, puddle suits and hats for outdoor adventures (these also help me keep children safe and easily identifiable when we are out and about)
• Outings, trips and activities
The only thing parents need to provide each day is a healthy, balanced packed lunch.

Our eldest was with Jemma for three years, and as soon as I was pregnant with my second I reserved her place at Little Buddies! We feel very lucky to have Jemma in our lives, she's just wonderful with the kids, easy-going, flexible and informative for us as parents, I simply could not have asked for a better child-minder experience. The number one thing you want as a parent leaving your precious littles is to leave them with someone trustworthy, and we've just been incredibly lucky in finding someone I know our children are going to be safe with. It's just an added bonus that they also have the time of their lives, are constantly learning, and are being nurtured into kind, polite and considerate people through Jemma's compassion, skills, and hard work.

Thank you my lovely x
Have been going to Jemma since my little girl was 1. We are a year in and the bond Jemma creates with the children is unreal, no child is excluded and is treated as if they are her own. My daughter asks everyday if we’re going to see Jemma and sometimes refuses my help if her ‘Jem Jem’ is in the room!! I dread the day we leave for school
