My Summary
About Me
Hello! I’m Anca — a warm, reliable and creative person who loves supporting children in a calm, positive and engaging way.
A big part of who I am comes from the time I spent growing up on my grandparents’ farm. I loved helping with the daily chores, caring for animals and learning the rhythm of a simple, connected life. Those early experiences shaped my core values and it’s there that I learned the importance of responsibility, kindness, patience and a strong work ethic — lessons I still carry with me and bring into my everyday life.
More recently, I returned from a year-long pilgrimage through Latin America, where I volunteered in remote communities doing gardening, farming, cooking and sustainable building projects. Being surrounded by breathtaking nature strengthened my appreciation for slow living and adaptability. During my time there, I also improved my Spanish and started learning Portuguese, which helped me communicate with locals and understand their day-to-day life and cultural differences.
Creativity plays a big part in my life. I enjoy drawing, painting, crafts and DIY projects, as well as storytelling and singing — and I recently began learning guitar during my travels, which I’m happily continuing now. I love sharing music and creative activities with children, as these can be wonderful ways for them to express themselves and build confidence.
I’m also an active person who enjoys long walks in nature and cycling everywhere I can. To keep my mind sharp, I enjoy reading, writing and brushing up on my languages. To unwind, I love cooking with friends and playing board games at the end of the day.
My approach to childcare is gentle, patient and engaging. I aim to create a warm, welcoming environment where children feel safe, confident and inspired to explore. I’d love to bring this positive energy, creativity and care into your home.
My Experience
My love for working with children began when I was 13, babysitting for neighbours’ toddlers. From those early days, I discovered the joy of caring for children and supporting their curiosity, creativity, and growth.
Over the years, I’ve gained experience in a variety of settings:
Teaching & Education
I worked part-time as a teaching assistant in a homeschooling group and later at the Bristol Steiner School while completing my Waldorf Teacher Training course. Studying and working simultaneously gave me a deep understanding of child development, gentle, but assertive guidance and creative, child-led learning approaches. After finishing my studies, I took a sabbatical to travel, learn and gain new life experience.
I was also running a small hand-working group outside of school for children to learn how to knit, croche, do makrame and other seasonal crafts.
Woodland / Forest School Experience
I worked as a play-worker in a woodland (forest-school-style) kindergarten, caring for children aged 18 months to 7 years. This role allowed me to combine my love for nature with my passion for child-led learning. My responsibilities included supporting developmental milestones through outdoor play, craft activities using sustainable or recycled materials, wildlife exploration, tool use, cooking on the fire and games, encouraging children’s curiosity and independence.
Festivals & Events
I have volunteered in children’s areas at outdoor events and festivals in Sheffield, where I engaged children aged 4–11 through recycled crafts, creative play and group games, helping them feel confident, included and inspired.
Interpreting Work with Families
Through my work as an interpreter, I often met families and children in homes, schools, clinics and courts. Some situations can be sensitive, especially those involving Social Services, so I always aimed to be a calm, reassuring presence and help communication flow smoothly.
Across all my roles, I bring an enthusiastic yet patient approach, encouraging creativity and supporting each child’s natural development. I strongly believe in hands-on learning and the power of the outdoors as a teacher. Building trusting, positive relationships with children and parents is always at the heart of my work.
I hold an enhanced DBS check, and a certificate in Waldorf Teacher Education. I am not currently Ofsted registered and cannot work from my home as I live in a house share.
