About Me

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Martina,

I started working with children when I was still a student at University. In my gap year (September`95 – August`96), I became an Au-pair looking after a five-year-old boy for a professional mother living in Bath. After graduating from University of Agriculture, Faculty of Economics, I became a Nanny for a young Italian family living in Sienna; caring for three small girls - twins aged 6 months and their three-year-old sister. It was a full-time, live-in sole charge position looking after 3 young children for the period of 1 year from July 1998 till June 1999.

I have since run an international recruitment agency between Slovakia and the UK, married and am proud to have an 18-year-old son who is studying at Cardiff University.

During the period between September 2015 and August 2018 I lived in Vienna, Austria, where I worked as a nanny for an international French - American diplomatic family caring for their eight month old son on part-time (5 hours a day, 5-6 days a week), live out basis. Most of the time I looked after this very active little boy we would spend outdoors going to the parks, playgrounds, farms, botanic gardens and the Zoo. I would engage him in activities to develop his motor skills; going swimming, reading stories, dancing, singing, and general playing and games activities; feeding him with light meals.

From September 2018 to mid-September 2020 I worked as an Assistant Nursery Officer for the Bunny Park Nursery in Hanwell, Ealing, working with children ages 2-5 years old. I was involved in practising EYFS curriculum and organising daily activities, helping children with their nursery routines and ensuring their overall welfare.

I then became a full time live-out nanny for an English family in Chiswick, London from mid-September 2020 until beginning of August 2021. I looked after an 11 month old boy and his 4 year old sister. Each morning I was responsible for getting them dressed and then her little brother and I would walk his sister to school. The little boy was very much interested in cooking as he saw me preparing dinner on daily basis. Therefore we ended up playing with their little kitchen unit quite a lot, singing, reading, trampolining, attending "Maggie and Rose" (it is a play area designed around snakes and ladders). We would visit Chiswick Park, feeding the birds on the river bank and various play areas. I routinely cooked lunch I prepared for him when we came back from morning activities. The boy usually had a 2 hour long nap after lunch. I would start cooking dinner for them when feeding him lunch. I was responsible for doing light housework, primarily helping to keep at bay the inevitable mess produced by two active young children. After little one woke up we would set for a walk to get the big sister from school which followed by either going to the playgrounds or going to playdates or organising playdates at family`s house. Or we simply ended up playing with her doll house, magnetic blocks; Uno cards or other games; as well as baking simple cakes. When lockdown came into force, I was present, making sure and helping the girl with her online tuition and her homework afterwards. As last I would give them dinner and left for home.

Over the last nine months (6th September 2021-31 May 2022 I have worked for a French Pro Footballer family with four children; ages 6, 4, 2 years and 5 months. My typical day was giving children breakfast and looking after the 2 younger children up to 3pm in the afternoon while their other 2 siblings were at school. Looking after the 2 younger children involved showering them in the morning; getting them dressed; taking them out to playgrounds and parks, for a scooter ride or a walk; preparing and giving them lunch; playing with them, using building blocks, dolls, other toys; doing puzzles,; engaging them in singing children`s songs, dancing, reading stories, doing crafts. Later in the afternoon I would collect the other children from school; a duty I shared with their parents. Before helping them with their school work and generally organising activities such as playing games, trampolining, reading short stories with a focus on their comprehension I would prepare them a small meal. There was also an element of proxy parenting involved due to the fact that their mum often travelled abroad. I finished working for this family at the end of May 2022, that is when dad`s pro footballers contract with Brentford team came to an end and the family moved back to France.

I am a kind, patient and energetic person with a passion for working with children. I naturally follow a child-centred approach because it is a relaxed way to encourage children to initiate activities through which I can help them to develop their creativity and ability to think. Free and easy play in the form of early learning activities, particularly for younger children, is at the heart of this.

My naturally caring nature does not however mean that I lose sight of the need to be firm when necessary; quite the opposite. In this way I am able to build confidence with children and support the routines and schedules that parents are or have established.

It is now second nature for me to quickly assess situations and to respond appropriately. With children this means calmly and supportively taking the time to listen to what they say and what they do not say. Supporting them in this way helps them to feel secure and safe. Above all, I always have the wellbeing of the children for whom I care for front and centre.

In addition to being keen on healthy cooking, and therefore eating, I am physically active and encourage children to be the same. Born and brought up in the High-Tatra Mountain region of Slovakia determined my enthusiasm for sports and outdoor activities like: cycling, jogging, badminton, ball games, hiking skiing, salsa dancing, etc. I am a full supporter of the idiom "healthy body means a healthy mind". When caring for children I always endeavour to bring this wealth and breadth of personal experiences, love for nature, care and individual growth and happiness to all that I do.

I have got an Enhanced DBS check, a First Aid qualification and EU driving licence.

I would love to commit to long term nanny roles and can provide suitable references.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards
Martina Balysz
