My Summary
About Me
I work with my wife who is also a registered childminder and we are both individually qualified/Ofsted registered, we can provide childcare for up to 6 children each day.
We live in Walthamstow E17 (Northeast London), with our son Ethan and our pet dog Milo, in a terraced house with a nice sized garden. We are walking distance of Lloyd Park, Kitchener Road Park with Brokkys Croft (a small play park as an extension to our garden) opposite our house and a short bus journey to Epping Forest.
We have created a home away from home (hyggelig) environment which provides a warm, nurturing, and safe environment with an active, creative, and fun atmosphere (a hyggelig environment is a Scandinavian way of life, socializing, cosy contentment and well-being, feeling sheltered and safe, soft lighting, soft pastel shades or strong muted colours). We encompass this with our choice of furniture, colours and toys in our home, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere.
We believe that outdoor play and outdoor education plays an important role to children’s development and helps them reach their full potential. Every young person should experience the world outdoors as an extension to their learning and as an essential part of their personal and social development.
Our aims are to encourage children to build their self-awareness, self-confidence, and social skills to develop and reach their milestones in a fun and creative way through arts and crafts and play.
My Experience
About Steve:
I originally trained for 3 years in the youth training scheme for Waltham Forest Outdoor Education Department, as a trainee outdoor education instructor. Working with school groups, teachers and special educational needs, assisting in running school residential visits including school camps, mountain walking, canoeing and outward bound adventures.
I then gained 4 seasons full time and 3 seasons part time experience, working for the old Lee Valley Watersports Centre as an outdoor education, team building leader, qualified Sailing Instructor and a Kayaking/Canoeing Instructor. Teaching to a wide range of people from primary to secondary age pupils, special educational needs and adults.
I am also an experienced teaching assistant with a calm, patient, caring and warm approach. I worked in the London Borough of Newham for many years, with 3 years’ experience working with SEN primary students in a mainstream school, supporting them in their academic curriculum, social emotional behavioural needs, and teaching strategies for their individual additional needs.
I also have almost 19 years’ experience working in Newham, for children with Social Emotional Mental Health, supporting them in their curriculum and incorporating outdoor education into their learning, including assisting in Forest Schools sessions (I have now qualified as a Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioner).
Since working in schools I have gained a great deal of experience in Health & Safety and carrying out Risk Assessments in an educational setting. I ensured that standards were met as the schools Educational Visits Co-ordinator including organising and managing numerous school residential visits (Camping/Snowdonia/Peak district Residentials).
I have now been working as a childminder since 1st June 2021 and I can use my vast experience to ensure that our home and outdoor environment is a safe place for the children that I care for.
I have been a qualified first aider since 1993 and certified in level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene since 2008 (both updated every 3 years)
I have also been a school governor for one of our local academy trust schools, since November 2016. 4 years as a parent governor and a co-opted governor since February 2021. Now currently stand as a trust appointed governor since October 2023.

I offer the following funded hours:
30-hour funding entitlement for under 2s (from 9 months) of eligible working parents.
30-hour funding entitlement for 2 year olds of eligible working parents.
Please Note: I do not offer the following funded hours:
> 15-hour entitlement for parents of 2 year olds who receive some additional forms of government support.
> 15-hour funding entitlement for parents of 3 and 4 year-olds (the universal entitlement).
> 30-hour funding entitlement for eligible working parents of 3 and 4 year-olds.
Additional Hours can be purchased at our private rate, which includes all meals and snacks.
Private rate Fees:
We charge £80 per child per day which includes all meals (breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, refreshments and evening tea).
Additional Charges:
Please note the Government funding is intended to deliver 30 hours a week of free, high quality, flexible childcare. It is not intended to cover the costs of meals, other consumables, additional hours, or additional activities.
Meal Charges:
We promote a positive and welcoming eating environment and believe that children sitting together at the table for meals and snacks, and eating the same food, helps to develop good eating habits, self-care skills and table manners whilst also encouraging interaction, language and social skills.
We offer healthy meals throughout the day as a package that includes breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack/milk and tea/dinner (We don’t offer this as a flexible approach).
> We charge £5.50 per funded day.
> Any additional full days purchased at our private rate currently includes all meals and snacks.
Alternative to meals:
One of the rules for the Govt funding is that we must provide you with options if you choose not to pay for our meals, snacks and drinks.
Therefore, if you choose not to pay for the meals that we provide, we ask that you provide all the meals/snack/milk for the day inline with our Food and Drink/Packed Lunch Policies.
