You may not have heard of Magic Dragon Preschool, but we are a well-established, friendly, nurturing and child-centered local preschool situated off Bishop Road/Kings Drive in BS7. We are located in a quiet area with ample bike and car parking for easy drop off and collection. Our setting has a fantastic environment consisting of two very large halls and two large gardens situated away from busy roads.
We welcome children at any point during the year once they turn two and a half years old. This enables us to offer families an individualised settling-in plan and time to build up relationships with our children and meet their needs. We have a high staff to child ratio allowing us to really get to know our children, follow their interests and plan for stimulating and purposeful play. Our aim is for every child to grow into a curious, kind, resilient, independent and happy child.
We offer very flexible attendance on Mondays to Thursdays from 9-1pm during term time, we have funded two year old places, funding for FEEE of up to 15 free hours per week and we accept childcare vouchers.
We provide a safe and unique learning environment that inspires our children to play, explore and grow.
PLAY: We believe in the power of play, nurturing children's little hands and big hearts and minds. We provide a wide range of activities and experiences and we follow children's ideas and interests to help them develop.
EXPLORE: The children enjoy playing and exploring both inside and out come rain or shine. Throughout the year, we explore our local community and festivals through trips and inviting in visitors.
GROW: Our aim is to enable everyone to grow into curious, kind, resilient, independent and happy children.
Above all, our long-standing, experienced and highly qualified staff team go above and beyond to ensure that each and every child is nurtured and provided with the best early education possible.

“Magic Dragon Preschool is everything I wished for and more! The staff are a knowledgeable dream team who truly understand how children thrive. My son runs in every time, so excited that he forgets to say bye. The pandemic hasn’t got in the way of staff making sure children settle in smoothly. With COVID restrictions we have only been able to settle our children in the garden but this has been encouraged for as long and as often as needed. The ‘Having Fun at Home’ booklet* they produced in response to lockdown, the activity packs available for borrowing and the booklet with pictures of the staff and key info sent by post to each child meant that the children were able to start their ‘settling in’ long before term started. Communication has been outstanding and the weekly newsletter and daily social media updates have enabled me to talk to my son about all the things he has been up to which has helped build our home-school connection. Our Fees
- Childcare from £27.00 per morning
Registration Fee and Fees:
A £40 non-refundable fee is payable when submitting our registration form.
Fees are calculated on a termly basis and payable in advance. You will receive an invoice three times a year. You will be charged even if your child is absent.
We charge £6.25 an hour.
Financial support:
There are different types of financial support you may be eligible to receive to help you with the cost of childcare. The type of help you can receive will depend on your individual circumstances.
All children attending Magic Dragon are currently eligible for the Early Education Entitlement funding of up to 15 hours per week from the January, April or September after their 3rd birthday. You will receive the paperwork when you start at our preschool. This is subject to regular review. If you feel you may be eligible for additional hours, you can find out more online.
Childcare Vouchers:
We accept Childcare vouchers, a government scheme operated through employers to allow you to pay for childcare from your pre-tax salary. An amount is deducted from your salary at source and paid directly to your childcare provider.
For those paying fees in full, we charge £6.25 per hour.

Magic Dragon Preschool is a hidden gem. I feel so grateful to have found it. My daughter is so excited to attend. The staff go above and beyond to make sure each day is engaging while also making sure children feel secure. I have been consistently impressed with the individual attention my daughter receives and how her interests and needs are met. This, in turn, has nurtured her confidence and self-esteem.
The day has a clear rhythm and routine that includes time outside, songs, stories and free play. In addition to this, there have been some fantastic extra activities such as a drawing workshop, visit to a community garden, teddy bear's picnic, sport's day, pizza making, Irish dancing, woodwork, tortoise visit and so on.. The days are paced well too so that children enjoy activities without feeling overwhelmed.
I feel so relieved and thankful to have found Magic Dragon because of the kind, nurturing staff and its small size. It is exactly what we had hoped for in terms of childcare and education at this stage.

Magic Dragon has been a brilliant place for our daughters to thrive and grow in confidence. The staff are incredibly gifted and attentive. We are so grateful for the way Magic Dragon both helps our children to develop their interests and discover new things. The setting has a wonderful garden, trips throughout the year are enriching but not overwhelming for little ones, and the attention to detail in the activities, play and learning that happens is wonderful.

What a lovely preschool Magic Dragons is. My son started when he was 3 years old and will be starting at school this coming September. I genuinely feel Magic Dragons has given him the best possible preparation for starting school. I consider him quite a wild child and worried how he would cope when it came to thinking about school. Thanks to all the lovely key workers at Magic Dragons I feel confident that he is ready and that he will enjoy school as much as he enjoys preschool. The key workers clearly put lots of time and energy into making every day fun and engaging for all the children. My boy runs in happily every day looking forward to what he’s going to play with, make and do with all his friends, and he has built some lovely friendships whilst at preschool. They have built in confidence in what he can do and he proudly shows me and tells me about his accomplishments when he comes out. Thank you Magic Dragons for the best possible start for him!
