About Me
Hello my name is Belinda. I enjoy supporting children with their learning because I know that with a little extra time, so much can be done to enable children to gain confident and happiness regarding school and studying.
Over 30 years ago, I started out as a dyslexia support assistant, travelling around East London with my little case of props and sound cards.
I then went on to become a learning support attendant ( old name for teaching assistant) and worked in schools in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.
I some how ended up in Bedford and have worked in many schools, enjoying every single one of them. I have also worked in a nursery and as a childminder for some years.
I also love storytelling and art, a lot of my spare time is spent sketching or visiting galleries or sharing stories for my little friends to enjoy.
My Experience
I have worked with children in school settings, as a LSA for over twenty years, in London and Bedford. I enjoy supporting children with their learning and encouraging them to grow in confidence as they try new things.
I am Sounds Write and Numicon trained, which support the understanding of literacy and numeracy in a visual and phonetic way. This is something that can make a big difference to children that are trying to make sense of these skills.
Working in a school, has enabled me to understand and apply the same method of teaching that children are familiar with, therefore we are always on the same page.
I am also happy to explain current teaching methods to parents, as this will enable and empower them to support their children with confidence.
I am able to offer support with SAT's revision, to ensure your child in confident and relaxed during what could be quite a stressful time.
During Lockdown, I took the opportunity to learn about teaching online, so now i am able to offer that as a service too. I volunteer with a online tutoring group and zoom into schools across England, helping children to catch up with Mathematics and English.
I have made time twice a month, to volunteer online by supporting an up and coming Saturday school in the Gambia with math's and English.
I also volunteer with Action Tutoring, a company that zooms tutors into schools across England, to carryout catch-up sessions with small groups of children.
I am also an active trustee to a youth charity called Kori, it is a group based in North London, that supports and enables great opportunities for young people. It is a pleasure watching this group grow and evolve.
It is with great pleasure to add to my profile, that I was nominated for the Every Day Hero Award in Bedford, in the category of Excellence in Education. To my utter surprise, I humbly achieved success by winning the award for this category.
