About Me
I run Abington Playhouse Early Years (childminding) set in the beautiful village of Great Abington, graded as "Good" in all areas of Ofsted EYFS inspection, September 2023. With its thatched roofs, old cottages and peaceful location, Abington boasts a large village park, cricket green, local woodlands, countryside walks and a friendly playgroup in a community where everybody stops to say hello yet we are ideally located just a short walk (or drive) from Granta Park and TWI. Located only minutes from Whittlesford Parkway rain station, the A1307, A11 and A505 and 15 minutes from Cambridge, Abington Playhouse retains the peaceful, friendly attributes of village life.
Playhouse offers a stimulating, fun, active environment for young children. I am a fully qualified Nursery Nurse (CACHE Level 3) with over 36 years experience in worldwide childcare. Each day is filled with fun, laugher and many happy experiences which help to create a wonderful childhood for your young ones and fills them with confidence for when they are ready to progress to nursery or school. We engage in fun activities including music, art, dressing up, phonics, free play, stories, outings to parks, farms, woodlands ,countryside walks and much, much more. The outdoor space has undergone an upgrade his year to provide an ideal outdoor environment for young children. There is a large covered decked area suitable for year round use and set up with a variety of activities, the grassed area provides sand and water play along with climbing/balancing equipment suitable for all ages.
Registered for tax free savings, Funded places available Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 - 5. Please mention if you require a funded space when making an enquiry as spaces are limited.
My Experience
I qualified as a NNEB Nursery Nurse in 1987, I then worked as a nanny and nursery worker throughout the UK before spreading my wings to work as an international nanny. In 2004 my husband and I became registered childminders and Playhouse was born in Central Cambridge we rapidly grew to be a very successful childcare setting where we trained childcare students from Cambridge Regional College After many successful years, my family relocated to Abington for a quieter, more laid back pace of life. I opened Abington Playhouse Early Years in September 2021 following the Covid 19 pandemic. I worked throughout the pandemic as a nanny and educator in Cambridge.

We contacted Jackie looking for a childcare place for our one year old at short notice, having been let down by a local nursery. We are so glad we did! Charlotte has been going to Jackie's for a year now and we have watched her grow into a confident and fun loving 2 year old. She also really loves Jackie's husband Kevin. We really like the small home from home environment that they are building. There's never too many children on any given day and they really take the time to bond and work with each child. Communication is always clear and easy and overall we can't fault them or recommend them enough! If you are looking for a local childminder I would recommend Jackie 100%.

Thank you for such kind words. We always strive to improve our setting and to know how much Charlotte has enjoyed the new resources provided to stimulate her learning is a reward to us. Charlotte is such a happy, loving, confident child always trying new experiences and leading the way in role play, following routines, art and most definitely letting me know exactly what she wants and when she is not happy with me (a particular disappointment to her is cream cheese on a rice cake when she knows sweet potato humus is in the fridge!). Charlotte gets on with everyone and is a huge part of our setting, she will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered when she moves on to nursery. It is, and for a short while yet, an absolute joy to have Charlotte with us and we are greatfull you choose us as the lucky family to work with you all.
