Charlie
Doula in Brighton (also available for babysitting)
My Summary
About Me
Hi! I’m Charlie, a Birth and Postnatal Doula based in Brighton, supporting families across Sussex and South London. I believe in the power of building strong relationships with women and birthing people from their pregnancy to the fourth trimester and the transformative sense of calm and control that this brings.
Listening is at the centre of my practice. I’m an energetic and creative doula who knows the value of some undivided reflection time and a cup of tea. I love bouncing ideas back and forth, getting to know the intricacies of a parent’s likes and dislikes, finding people’s unique rhythms and helping to situate people in caring networks.
We are faced with so many decisions in our lives and the internet provides added noise to contend with. I am a sounding board for birthing plans and ideas. I hold space for beautiful and simple moments of ritual and pause that can help to foster feelings of control.
As a queer doula, I understand some of the challenges of navigating a healthcare system that is designed for a heteronormative experience. Doulas can play a role in assisting parents with navigating the healthcare system and helping work through emotions that arise around identity and gender dysphoria.
Postnatal Night Doula:
My experience caring for babies in early years settings and overnight nannying has made me a confident and holistic practitioner around infant sleep. My night doula support is designed to give you some valuable rest while still working with your preferred choice of feeding. As a postnatal night doula I also provide emotional support and light household tasks to help you feel prepared for the morning.
My Experience
I have a background working in the baby room at nurseries, nannying and overnight care. I have experience with: infant feeding, sleep, baby massage, babywearing, teething, weaning and supporting neurodiverse children and parents.
My fascination with all things birth and newborns led me towards the wonderful doula path. As someone who has been working in people-centred jobs and support roles for the last 5 years, I know how important it is to feel heard and securely held. I love to go above and beyond in my role!
What I bring to the doula role:
- An Ofqual recognised Paediatric First Aid certificate, enhanced DBs check and Food Hygiene Level 2.
- An interest in healing herbs.
- A love for sharing my nutritious vegan meals.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic art-making and supporting non-verbal emotional processing.
