About Me

My name is Sharnaé. I am a Sleep Consultant, Maternity Nurse(medical) and Parent Coach. I have been supporting babies and parents for 30 plus years. Criss-crossing the globe, I experienced different countries, cultures, languages, traditions, beliefs and time zones. Navigating challenging jobs with demanding personalities. Working internationally without the benefit of my own normal support systems, on little sleep. In my earlier days of doing 24hr live in care, at times I found myself experiencing overwhelm. Coming from working in a very busy hospital environment where there is always something that needs your attention, I had to learn how to slow down the pace to adjust to working 24hrs, six days a week for months at a time. It was a steep learning curve that brought unexpected challenges. This in a nutshell is much the same experience for new parents who are often ill prepared for the realities of these new roles, daily challenges and subsequent unexpected changes, all happening at once. There is often a marked difference between parents expectations and realistic age appropriate goals. Repeatedly unmet expectations can lead to a new parents confidence being quickly eroded. With increasing sleep deprivation, struggles with breastfeeding, physical, medical or genetic complications, the pace at which we are living life in a 24 hour world and the expectations on parents returning to the work force, and more recently the world wide pandemic, is it any wonder parents need more support? It can be daunting looking for more than just cookie cutter solutions in an age of information overload. As we look to the future we can see clearly how important it is going to be to get the basics right so we can firm up the foundations parents are building on. My years of being in the trenches, side by side with my many clients has given me a wealth of experience, which you can draw from. I am fascinated by the mind and its untapped potential to either limit or empower us. I am on a mission to empower parents to raise resilient, resourceful and compassionate human beings with ease and flow. Past failures are simply fuel for future success. So whatever your challenge may be, you have not broken your baby and there is nothing wrong with you. You are doing a great job. The fact you are here shows your commitment to doing the best for yourself and your family. You already know your little one best! With gentle guidance and small shifts your confidence will be restored.

After facing serious challenges with my health, family bereavement and significant trauma, I turned to coaching. This journey has helped me to continue to support parents, using my experiences without bringing any bias into my interactions. My approach is gentle on baby and calming for parents, while being respectful of the family unit. We all deserve to be living our best lives regardless of circumstance.

Having started out in the medical field I soon realised that we must heal the whole person mind, body and spirit. I am always on the lookout for new tools to add to my tool kit, currently I am working towards my Health and Life Coach Certification with a focus on Nutrition and Transformational Coaching. I firmly believe that Emotional Intelligence is the Health & Wealth of the future. More recently I am using the EA method for Emotional Mastery to help support babies and parents with building and understanding their relationships.

I am kind, calm, proactive, cope well under pressure and fit into any environment. Working with High Profile clients where confidentiality and discretion are vital to running workshops in my community, I love to make a difference. I strive to ensure my clients feel empowered to make the right decisions for their families and to feel confident about when to seek out help in the future, if it is needed. Parenting is a steep learning curve, with much conflicting advice. Despite this it is still possible to thrive not merely survive. I look forward to supporting your family,
Sharnaé

My Experience

I grew up in South Africa, where I studied to become a Registered Nurse in the following areas Community Nursing, Psychiatry, General Nursing Science and Midwifery. After graduation I worked at Parklands Hospital in Durban(the hospital where my mother was born) working in all maternity departments covering ante-natal, postnatal, labour, NICU/ High Care and nursery. I worked permanent night shift, under a great deal of pressure in a high stress environment where keeping a cool head saves vital minutes for the best outcomes. Later I traveled to the USA and worked as a live in nanny to a child with special needs working side by side with other health care professionals as part of a multi-disciplinary team. In 1998 I moved to the United Kingdom, using London as my base. Working as a private at home maternity nurse (24hr live in) I began to develop my own approach to getting babies and parents off to the best start. I focused on building confidence, fostering secure attachment and bonding, supporting maternal sleep, breastfeeding, nutrition and mental wellbeing while creating healthy infant sleep habits. Working with hundreds of families around the world, each with their own unique circumstances. Having them place their faith and trust in me, has been an honour for which I am grateful.

Sleep is essential for all of us. We need both an adequate amount and a good quality. Poor sleep directly impacts normal physical, emotional and neurological development, compromises the immune system, has detrimental implications on relationships, family, school and work. This is why it is one of the cornerstones of my approach Sleep; Nutrition and Well Being; Mindset and Beliefs; Education and Support.
