About Me
I’m Ryan Cannell, a West Sussex English tutor with a fun, friendly style and a knack for turning reluctant writers into confident storytellers. I work with children aged 8–12 in Steyning, Shoreham, Burgess Hill, and online. From mythical beasts and Minecraft to bank-robbing raccoons, my 1:1 tutoring is anything but a usual school lesson! Many of my students go on to enter story-writing competitions; boost their spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills; and feel more prepared for their KS2 SATs. But best of all, they have loads of fun being creative! I have a background as a school TA and six years of tutoring experience—and I love every minute of it! My Experience
Somewhere between my English Literature & Education degree and helping a class invent a superhero made of custard, I realised my true passion: inspiring children to discover their story-writing bug!
I swapped my teaching assistant role for tutoring, and for the past six years, I've proudly taught 46 brilliant children — with many returning for a second, third, or even fourth year!
These days, you'll also find me having a smashing time running the Children's Writing Club at HurstWorks in Hurstpierpoint—and with all the laughs, it's hard to say who's having the most fun: the kids or me!
My Qualifications
I’ve got a BA (Hons) in English Literature & Education — the perfect mix of language know-how and insight into how children learn best. I’ve also worked as a Teaching Assistant in primary schools, supporting children with everything from sentence structure to story sparks, and helping them feel confident every step of the way.
My Availability
I’m available during term time from 12 pm to 8 pm, and I’m always happy to arrange half-term sessions if needed — just ask!

- Tutoring from £35.00 per hour
Lessons are £35 per hour, and here's exactly what's included:
* 1:1 tutoring in the comfort of your home or online.
* Fun, personalised lessons tailored to your child's needs and interests.
* A degree in English and Education, plus seven years' experience as a school TA and tutor.
All travel within my tutoring area is included, with no hidden fees – just engaging, confidence-boosting lessons designed to help your child become a brilliant writer!
