My Summary
Childminder And Primary Education Private Tutoring
About Me
In April 2025 I had my first Ofsted as a childminder and was graded Good in every category.
In the report it said, "The childminder implements a curriculum that is carefully tailored to meet the needs of the children in her care. She demonstrates excellent teaching skills,
which she consistently uses to enhance and extend the children's learning
experiences. For example, while the children explore sensory trays and make
marks, she actively expands their vocabulary and uses mathematical language to
describe capacity and shapes. Children respond and demonstrate a secure
understanding of those concepts. " And "Parents are highly satisfied with the support their children receive. They mention that although they were initially nervous about leaving their children, the childminder made them feel at ease and that this sense of comfort has
continued. They value the healthy eating habits their children have developed,
which have been encouraged by the childminder. Parents are delighted with the
enriching experiences their children have both in the countryside and during
group activities."
I am a qualified Primary School Teacher and passionate about Early Years. My Main training was in EYFS and KS1 but during my time as a teacher I have worked with older children in KS2. I have trained in language development which is so important to help with reading and writing when children start school.
When I taught Reception in an inner city school every Wednesday we did a Welly walk around the school’s grounds. This gave children experience to understand our natural environment. I gave them opportunities to learn and work together. Making homes, finding materials on the ground, making sculptures and collecting plants to identify. Respecting the seasons and going out in all weathers. I believe in being outside and the Forest school philosophy and the importance of outdoor learning.
I believe every child is an individual with interests that need to be explored and developed. It is also important that children feel safe, cared for and validated.
I have lived in Lockerley for the last 29 years and brought up my two children here. I have three friendly cats. One Moggy and two Siamese females. I have a large garden and I like to teach children the importance of growing food and encourage growing food from seed.
My Experience
I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher with over 12 years experience of supporting and teaching children in both KS1 and KS2. I was a Teaching Assistant for 13 years before teacher's training.
For 10 years I ran Lockerley Primary School's Summer Playscheme (1998- 2008) with the help of a great team of people from the school and young people from the village. We set up many activities including parachute games, football (football coach from the village), cooking every day and a number of art activities including tee-shirt tie dye and making wooden bird boxes. .
I have also worked in preschool settings and when my children were young I was a very successful registered childminder for 7 years. I have a real interest in forest schools and Scandinavian learn through play exploring natural materials and life around us.
I also tutor privately for primary school children who need support in core subjects.
