Frieda
Potty Trainer With Special Needs Experience Job In London Borough Of Brent
About Me
Hello, my name is Frieda and I’m a home-educating, Neurodivergent, working mum to my six-year-old son, who is autistic and has global developmental delay. I work remotely to work around my son’s needs. I’m based in Colindale NW9 ( north west London - a few mins from the underground station)
My Requirements
SEND / Home Education Support
(Part-Time to Long-Term Role)
I am looking for a committed, experienced SEND tutor to support my son’s home education, with the potential to take a more leading role over time.
My son is pre-verbal with emerging spoken language. He communicates effectively using a combination of gestures, facial expressions, vocalisations, and body language, and has used single spoken words. He also has access to an AAC communication app, which we would like to be used more consistently within his learning.
We began our home education journey in September 2024 after he left nursery, as we felt a traditional setting was not able to fully meet his needs. He has an EHCP, which is kept up to date.
Over the past year, I have intentionally focused on building a strong understanding of how he learns best. I now feel it is the right time to introduce another adult into his learning environment to support his development, help him build relationships, and provide additional support for both him and myself.
About My Son:
- Very physically active, enjoys movement-based learning
- Attends weekly swimming and gymnastics
- Benefits from regular movement breaks
- A keen observer, often watches before joining in
- Currently in a strong copying and mimicking phase
- Thrives with play-based, creative, and flexible learning
- Responds well to child-led approaches that support independence
He also attends weekly sessions at SENplay (Colindale), a sensory play centre for NEURODIVERSE children and home-educated learners.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong SEND experience is essential
(e.g. SEND school, specialist education role, or significant personal experience)
- Experience with autism and non-verbal or minimally verbal children
- Understanding or experience with AAC (highly desirable)
- A calm, patient, and creative approach
- Someone confident in play-based and alternative learning styles
- Willingness to support with personal care and daily living needs
- Ability to build a consistent, trusting relationship over time
- Experience managing and supporting challenging behaviour ( e.g melt downs)
This is not a typical tutoring role or short-term position. We are looking for someone who understands they are supporting not just education, but my son’s overall development and preparation for the world.
Location:
We are based in Colindale (2 minutes from the station).
I am open to flexible learning environments, when appropriate including:
- Home-based learning
- Local parks
- Community outings or trips
- play centres
I’m happy to collaborate and provide resources to support sessions and make learning engaging for you both.
Hours required:
- Starting with 2 hours per week
- Ideally Wednesday or Thursday
- Potential to increase over time if it’s a good fit
Important:
Please only apply if you have relevant SEND experience. We are not looking for a general tutor or a traditional school-based approach.
Consistency, reliability, and genuine commitment are extremely important to us.
If this sounds like a role you would be interested in, I would love to hear from you to arrange an initial meeting and discuss what you can offer our family.
