My name is Shannon, I am a 28 year old female from Chelmsford. I currently work in a day nursery, as a Level 3 Qualified Nursery Practitioner and also as a Play Worker in an after school/holiday club. I am part of a big, close-knit family and from a young age, have always helped to look after younger relatives, so childcare is second nature to me. I have an older brother, who has cerebral palsy and I was brought up to support and care for him in any way that he needs me to, so working with people with disabilities or additional needs is something I am also very used to. I would consider myself as a fun, friendly and bubbly person, who has a lot of patience and a genuine fondness for children. I am hard working and dedicated, but I also don’t take life too seriously and like to have fun! I have a full UK driving license and my own car.
My Experience
I have worked in the childcare industry for around 7/8 years. I started my career doing bank work in local nurseries and this led me to my current place of work, where I have been for the last 5 years. This is where I gained my level 3 qualification and also a speech and language support qualification.
Within the nursery, I am currently based in the toddler room, but I have plenty of experience working with babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers (Aged from 3 months - 4 Years).
After school finishes, I work in an afterschool club, where it is my job to collect children from local schools and bring them to the club to look after them, until their parents have finished work. During these few hours, I help with homework, provide nutritious food and also create a fun and exciting environment for the children to play or to wind down in.
I also help to run a holiday club for children aged 4-11 years, during school holidays. We do a range of activities during holiday club, such as going on trips/outings, getting creative, cooking/baking, singing, dancing, party games and much more.
I babysit at weekends/evenings, currently for around 10 different families. Some of these families have just 1 child, but the majority of them have more, so normally I am looking after groups of 2/3/4 or more children/siblings at a time. The children that I babysit for vary in age, the youngest being about 1 years old, the oldest being 16.
My Qualifications
I am a level 3 qualified Nursery Practitioner.
I am first-aid trained.
I am epi-pen trained.
I am DBS checked.
Health and safety trained.
Food hygiene and safety trained.
I have recently achieved a Essex County Council accredited qualification for Speech and Language Support for 3-5 year olds.
My Availability
I currently work every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and do occasional overtime on Mondays and Fridays. The latest I ever finish work is 6pm, therefore I am available anytime after that, once travelling times have been taken into consideration. My availability is evenings all week and weekends, but with the possibility of occasional Monday and Friday daytimes.
