About Me

My name is Mel and I am a qualified Makaton Tutor (Makaton Tutor Mel). I deliver face to face training across the Fens and in Peterborough and the surrounding areas and also online.

I can deliver Makaton training levels 1 - 4 and Makaton Signing for Babies.

I work Monday to Friday as an Ofsted registered childminder (Mel's Childcare) so training is offered on an evening or weekends. You can find my childcare page on childcare.co.uk listed as Mel Negus.

My Experience

I completed my first Makaton training in 2008 having been an avid watcher of Mr Tumble with my young son in his preschool years. Over the years I have seen the benefits of using Makaton with ALL children not just those with a specific learning disability. Using Makaton with the very youngest of children can help them communicate before they learn to talk, which can help ease frustration and behavioural issues that may arise when a child is struggling to communicate and be understood by those around them.

Seeing the benefits of Makaton for all children has seen my passion for sharing Makaton with others grow. So in 2019 I started my journey again, refreshing all my previous training and completing the Enhanced training for the first time, unfortunately due to COVID things got put on hold and then took longer to complete but finally in 2022 I qualified as a fully certified Makaton Tutor, something I am very proud of, and also excited as I can now officially share my passion with others and support them on their Makaton journey.

Makaton Tutor, I have also completed PTLLS and qualified as a PACEY tutor.

My Fees

  • Tutoring from £11.00 per hour

I charge the fee set by makaton for their training. Currently (October 2022) this is £77 per level.

Each level is either two 3.5hr sessions or one full day and includes the participants manuals which include all the signs, symbols and line drawings for each level and a certificate of attendance.
