Jess W
Private Tutor in Watford
My Summary
About Me
Hello, I’m Jessica – a qualified primary teacher with QTS and over ten years of experience teaching across a range of year groups. Throughout my career, I have led small group sessions using a personalised approach, ensuring that lessons are engaging, interactive, and carefully tailored to each pupil’s needs.
My main area of expertise is supporting children with phonics, early reading, and writing, helping them to establish secure foundations in literacy. I believe children make the best progress when learning is enjoyable, practical, and adapted to suit their individual learning style. I place strong emphasis on identifying and addressing gaps in understanding to support steady and confident development.
I provide online tutoring with a nurturing and supportive approach, placing importance on building each child’s confidence and resilience. By adapting my teaching methods to the individual, I aim to help learners tackle challenges with assurance and develop a positive attitude towards their learning
My Experience
I completed my PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status at Middlesex University in 2014. Since then, I have accumulated seven years of teaching experience across the primary phase, working with pupils from Reception to Year 6. My experience spans both mainstream and specialist settings, where I have supported children with a wide range of learning needs and additional challenges.
Having worked in London schools, I have developed a strong understanding of how to support pupils from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, as well as the importance of building positive relationships with their families.
I have a strong record of addressing learning gaps efficiently through focused interventions and one-to-one support, whether supporting early reading development or strengthening spelling skills.
Alongside my work in education, I have also taught yoga to adults. The core teaching skills I have refined in the classroom – including careful planning, effective time management, and delivering clear, structured instruction – have transferred seamlessly to other settings, enabling me to engage learners and lead well-paced, thoughtfully structured sessions.
