Hi! I'm Dais. I'm 18, from London and as of October 2023, I'm studying Psychology and Linguistics at Lancaster University with the specific aim and passion of researching the causes and developing effective therapies for speech difficulties. I'm also passionate about reading, history and art.
When caring for young people, I prioritise finding a balance between the needs of the caregiver (bedtimes, mealtime, any activities or rules) and making sure the child themselves feels comfortable and secure in my company. I often choose to investigate what the young person themself enjoys and attempt to recreate as best as I can activities (reading, drawing, dancing, games) that entertain them while simultaneously also recreating any daily routines.
My Experience
Primarily, my babysitting experience comes from regularly babysitting for a local family for approximately four years. On many occasions I entertained a primary school aged girl after her school day with imaginative games, drawing, creativity and stories before efficiently preparing her for bed at the time instructed. This role gave me invaluable insight into communicating with young people, ensuring they feel comfortable despite being away from their primary caregivers as well as how to calmly approach any misbehaviour in a productive and un-intimidating way.
Equally as crucial in building up my caring and babysitting skills is my past experience with a primary school aged relative born with a rare developmental disability, oftentimes he is left in my care, usually with my parents nearby in case of emergency, however being given responsibility of a child with special needs has greatly contributed to my ability to acknowledge and adapt to specific needs of young people as well as made me more of an attentive carer. From this I have also picked up beginner level British Sign Language.
My Qualifications
At the moment my highest academic qualifications are A- levels at AAB as well as a BSL level 1 in progress
