My Summary

My Experience

23 years of experience in early years.

I started volunteering in a Steiner Waldorf Parent and Child group in Lancaster.
Then I assisted in a the Waldorf kindergarten in Lancaster for 9 years. I learned on the job and it was like an apprenticeship, with a lot of CPD.

I was also a Health and Well-being coordinator at this time in a Children’s centre in Lancaster and a neighbouring community centre. I ran Parent and Child groups, supported parents and vulnerable families and visited them ihn the community.

I completed my level 6 Early Years Professional Status in Lancaster in 2010.

We moved to Brighton in 2010 and I started working in Brighton Steiner School, since renamed Brighton Waldorf School and completed the Waldorf Early Childhood Educator training, a level 4 training.

I worked in afternoon sessions for a year and then became a Kindergarten Teacher in 2012.
My first post which lasted 7 years, was at an idyllic Satellite Kindergarten called Singing Tree in Falmer Village.

We walked each day through the South Downs. The children did watercolour painting, baked fresh bread and had so much fun doing crafts. The Waldorf approach gives children time to be just that, children. We sing a lot, paint, craft and spend much of the day playing outside. We garden, we water and we have beautiful quality toys which aid the imagination.
It is a beautiful way to enjoy childhood.

We have exemptions from the literacy aspect of the EYFS, and modifications for Maths. We cook and eat together and learn to be kind, social people who eat and play and learn how to have group shared conversations.

Then I ran the Saplings Little Kindergarten at the Brighton Waldorf School. This was with the youngest children aged 2-4 years old. We had a simpler rhythm and curriculum. This is such a sweet age. I ensured that each child settled gently with stay and play sessions with parents, before the first drop off. I plan to do this again for new younger children.

In my last year at the Brighton Waldorf School, I taught a mixed age Kindergarten group for children aged 3-6. Similar to the curriculum at Singing Tree.

I also ran a Parent and Baby group, which is delightful. A place for new mums to come, relax, have a little pamper and get some support. I was the Eco School Representative and Sustainable Travel coordinator. In the group which managed the education, the College of Teachers

Looking after the environment is so important to me. We like to reduce reuse and recycle, as well as make our own compost. My garden is a pesticide free zone.
We use recycled materials at home for some crafts.

I look forwards to this next phase and it is great my to be so much fun, from here I know the children will become well rounded people growing up.

My Qualifications

Degree in Culture and Communication with a minor in Religious Studies
Level 4 Early Years Educator.
Level 6 Early Years Professional Status. EYP
Paediatric First Aid.
Level 2 Handle Training with the Learning House.
Safeguarding Lead Training (completing now)

Lots and lots of CPD.
