About Me

Hi, I am Beth. I am a first-year Law student at the University of Exeter. I am 20 years old and took a gap year before starting Uni last September. During my gap year, I volunteered in Kolkata India for 6 months at a children's charity and I worked at Camp America. I have experience working with children as demonstrated and I frequently worked with children during my school's community action program. I have babysat before for family friends and neighbours. I am responsible as evidenced by my Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification and my role at Camp driving the powerboats for watersports which required multiple safety considerations. Moreover, I am a friendly, approachable, calm and trustworthy individual.

Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or queries. In terms of availability, I am free most evenings in the week and can occasionally do afternoons. Please message me regarding this. I am between university and home for the next couple of weeks but will be available long term come the summer holidays.

My Experience

I have a lot of experience working with children. This started when I volunteered at my local library as part of my Gold DofE for the 'Summer Reading Challenge'. I was responsible for supervising, looking after and assisting primary school children with their reading and school work. During school, I participated in the 'Community Action' program where I personally tutored & mentored local primary school children on a 1-1 basis throughout my secondary school years. This included building a personal relationship with the children and helping them with their academics and/or pastoral concerns. During a gap year, I volunteered at Future Hope, Kolkata, India for six months. Academically I was an English & Maths teacher in the Learning Development. Additionally, I delivered and tailored 1-1 lessons to a group of students with special needs. Outside of this role I thoroughly enjoyed helping with sports, acting as a 'houseparent' in the homes where a large majority of the children live and participating in every aspect I could. During the summer of 2023, I worked as a Camp Counsellor at Camp America. I was responsible for a cabin of 10 girls aged 8-9 for 9 weeks, this included assisting them with their day-to-day activities, evening routines (including putting them to bed), and pastoral concerns such as homesickness. Moreover, I piloted the ski boats for watersports as a result of acquiring my RYA L2 powerboat license and my American Red Cross Lifeguarding qualification. This demonstrates I am a reliable, responsible and trustworthy adult given the safety considerations inherent in the activity.
