I have over 18 years experience working with children in a variety of different settings such as Private Nurseries, Hospitals, Special needs school and nannying.
I consider myself a reliable, warm, passionate organized nanny that is dedicated to ensuring the best needs of the children as well as the parents. I love what I do and want to help children reach their full potential supporting them in every way possible.
I thrive to be a part of a child’s development implementing opportunities and supporting them so that they can become the best version of themselves. Maintain a safe environment and the well being of the children. An area that I have gained a lot of experience in and am very passionate about is working with children with special needs. Working alongside all professionals to ensure the children's best interest and support them in any way possibly I can.
When working with children, I have enjoyed planning and organizing stimulating activities that encourage them to reach their developmental milestones.
My Experience
I have over 18 years’ experience working with children of all ages and have been very grateful to have worked with children in various settings. Each one taught me something new about how children are emotionally, mentally and physically. How they learn and more importantly that every child learns differently and has their own methods that work for them individually.
Working in private nurseries I worked within a team as well as individually. Ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for everyone to be within.
I would plan for each child that was in my group, planning activities that would help them with achieving their milestones from EYFS. Ensuring that the activities I planned were ones that they enjoyed and ones that introduced them to something new. Attending meetings, carrying out parent evenings to update them on their child’s progress and training.
Working in hospitals I worked as a Play worker in one, on a ward for the children and young people with craniofacial, neurological problems, epilepsy or who needs surgery on the brain or spine. My role as the play worker would be to provide play for them either in the playroom or at their bedside as some children were unable to move or get out of bed. The ward had 24 beds, and I would go around every morning and say hello to the children and see if what everyone would want to do that day. Once I had done this, I would plan my day accordingly and carry out play sessions throughout the day. Checking in on the families/parents to see if they needed anything, whether this was anything I could get them or for me to come in to be with their child whilst they go out to get something to eat or have some time themselves. I would also take part in MDT meetings with other professions such as the head of play, doctors and nurses. Working alongside professions when working with children with special needs or disabilities to make sure that I am aware of their needs and building a relationship with me whilst in the hospital to ensure they are comfortable as they can be and feel safe in a environment they are not used to.
In my other role working in hospitals, I worked as a Neonatal Nursery Nurse working with premature babies and their mothers/families. I worked alongside other nursery nurses and nurses, caring for a few premature babies daily or evening as in my role I would do day shifts as well as night shifts. I would monitor the babies, look for jaundice and monitor this, feed the babies through NGT if they were unable to breast/bottle feed, changing them and spending some time with them and getting them out of the incubators. In my night shifts I would take care of all the feeds if the mothers needed rest or were unable to do this due to having a c-section. I would support mothers with breast feeding and the care of their babies for them to feel confident when leaving the hospital after being discharged. Attending meetings every morning or evening before shifts start for handover and any important information regarding the families we have in.
Working as a private nanny caring for children of various ages. Taking the children to daily activities weekly, involving them in social activities to encourage their social skills and independence. Carrying out activities at home in their own environment to support their development and interests. Organizing play dates and social interactions with other nannies and going to places such as museums, activities, camps etc.
All childcare related duties such as cooking for the children, doing their washing and maintaining a clean playroom and bedrooms. Forming a good relationship with the parents to be able to have open communication when it comes to the children’s best interests.
When working in my previous school, I worked with children 1:1 or in small groups carrying out activities that had been set out by the teacher to support their EHCP’s. Sometimes this could be between 1- 4 children depending on the needs of the children. On some occasions we would use PECS to communicate and to help with the lessons. Working alongside the teacher and other LSA’s within the classroom supporting each other as well as the children. The children I worked with had Autism, ADD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia as well as sensory or physical needs, social and emotional where they found it difficult managing relationships or maintaining them. I would also attend some of the children’s SLT, ABA or OT sessions if required, to which I found it very useful to see how the children responded in these sessions compared to class. This gave me the opportunity to build those close relationships with the children to have whilst in class with a familiar face, one they could trust. As well as making these relationships within the class I would also do this with all the children as sometimes walking around the playgrounds on duty at break or lunch times, getting to know the children around the school even though I would not work with them directly.
