About Me

My name is Ella and I enjoy knitting, baking, drawing and finding new recipes.

Growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandmother who ran a care home where I spent most of my weekends learning to knit, bake and care for vulnerable individuals. This has helped me to become the patient and caring person I am today.

I am a firm believer that children should be able to express themselves and learning can take place outside the classroom in a fun and creative manner.

I am incredibly determined, resilient and have excellent organisational skills, am reliable and always professional. I am considerate, a good listener, fair and always respectful of others’ views. I have experience in developing and maintaining great relationships with others, including colleagues at all levels and members of the wider community.

I understand the importance of creating a safe and calm environment for children and my approach to behaviour management is to praise and reward positive actions of children as well as implementing the use of modelling appropriate behaviour. Providing clear and achievable outcomes while addressing said child in a calm and respectful manner.

My Experience

4+ years work experience as a TA, HLTA and most recently an Autism Service Lead - as well as a Trustee for an African Youth Development Association and Advisor for a Research Team.

Current employment:

I have recently stepped down from my previous Autism Lead position to work as a Teaching Assistant while I complete my management training. I plan to go to University next year to study Psychology Studies in Child Development and Education.

Previous experience:

I previously worked for a young peoples mental health charity. I lead on a project aimed at young people with neurodevelopment needs. My job was to offer emotional wellbeing support for young people transitioning in or out of apprenticeships or further and higher education. Exploring options, planning routes and setting/achieving goals.

Previous Education experience:

While working within education, I have been responsible for delivering:

Homework clubs
Break/lunch clubs
1:1 daily "check-in" support with Vulnerable young people
Language Interventions
Social Skills interventions
Overnight school trips

SEN Experience:

I have good knowledge of a range of difficulties including Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, SEMH and Dyspraxia and I have a passion to continue to learn. I am aware of support plans and EHCP’s and the involvement of specialist services such as EP, SLT, OT, mentoring and counselling.

I have supported 'hard to reach' young people, including those being looked after by the Local Authority, excluded from school and young people from minority ethnic backgrounds.

Voluntary work with young peoples mental health charity:

Having worked alongside a charity’s outreach team, I have been given the opportunity to visit youth clubs and other young people’s teams collecting data to feedback to the NHS regarding young people’s experience's surrounding mental health support within the borough of Croydon. I have also met politicians as well as other influential members of the community to spread awareness and a better understanding of the struggles surrounding mental health.
