About Me
Live in central Greenwich with two children; the oldest is neurotypical. We have a carer already, but she balances her care with studies so we often need extra support. I will also need some overnights in Sept / Oct when I travel.
My Requirements
Ongoing Special Needs Carer for Teen with Complex Needs (SE10 Greenwich)
Afternoon support plus overnight cover in September & October
We’re looking for a kind, reliable, and experienced carer to support our 14-year-old son Charlie, who has a rare genetic condition (3p26 deletion) and significant learning disabilities. He is non-verbal, highly affectionate, and functions at the level of a much younger child.
This role begins with afternoon support and trial sessions in the coming weeks, leading to overnight care during two periods this autumn. Ideally, we’d like to build a long-term relationship with someone who can provide ongoing part-time support alongside our regular carer, who has been with Charlie for 8 years and is now studying to be a nurse.
Schedule & Commitments:
Initial trial period: 6–7 half-day afternoon sessions (to shadow and get to know Charlie)
Overnight care needed for two blocks:
Saturday 20 – Thursday 25 September
Saturday 11 – Thursday 16 October
Potential for regular part-time work going forward (evenings, overnights, or occasional weekends)
About Charlie:
Charlie is mobile but has no sense of danger, so must be supervised at all times
He is non-verbal, wears pads, and needs help with feeding, dressing, and all personal care
He attends a special needs school, with a bus collecting him at 8:15am and returning at 3:00pm
He enjoys the outdoors, walks, and familiar routines. He responds well to new people
He can be hyperactive and sometimes wakes during the night, often laughing or vocalising for a few hours
Your Role:
Support Charlie in the afternoons, helping with snacks, outdoor walks, play, and evening routine
Provide overnight care — sleeping in the main bed in Charlie’s room (while he sleeps in his own bed)
Manage morning care: dressing, breakfast, and bringing him to the school bus across the road
Prepare simple meals, assist with changing pads, and supervise at all times during waking hours
Be part of a collaborative care setup with our long-standing carer
Location & Practicalities:
Based in Greenwich SE10, near Greenwich Station and the town centre
With access to kitchen, bathroom, and WiFi
You must have an enhanced DBS and be able to provide references
Preference for female carers, but all applications considered
Must have experience with non-verbal children and/or complex needs
Who This Might Suit:
SEN teaching assistants, care workers, or experienced childcare providers
Someone looking for reliable, meaningful part-time work
Comfortable with overnight stays and structured routines
Patient, observant, and confident managing complex behaviours
To apply:
Please get in touch with a short message about your experience, availability for trial sessions, and any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.
