About Me

Hi there, I'm Laura, a qualified childminder based in a recently renovated home-from-home setting on Moorgate (Acomb/Holgate area).

Prior to being a Childminder, I was a Primary School Teacher for 14 years. After having 5 children of my own I switched from teaching to childminding. I have lots of ideas, energy and a passion to bring out the best in each child by letting them play and following their individual interests.

Play is a big deal here! I have two large playrooms - one with bi-fold doors that lead outside onto an undercover area and then into a large garden. We spend lots of time outdoors in the mud kitchen, or on the obstacle course or swings, exploring in our nature area, picking fruit and vegetables from the veggie patch, or playing in the wooden house or on the pirate ship which has upper and lower decks complete with Jolly Roger flag! There is also a mini football pitch to play on, a basketball area, a large driveway for scooting and riding bikes and a beautiful 100 year old magnolia tree as the backdrop to it all. In addition to this, we are a short walk from West Bank Park woods where we spend a lot of time. We also have weekly trips out on Fridays - these trips are based on the children's interests.

All the food served here is vegetarian and home-cooked. There is a focus on seasonal fruits and vegetables (home grown where possible). Snacks are baked at home and ultra processed foods are avoided!

I offer a mixture of toys, some wooden - including Grimms, Grapat, Plan Toys and Glückskäfer to name a few. But we also have some popular plastic toys too all of which are regularly rotated to keep things interesting! You can see some of my set-ups on my pages.

Recently I have done additional training in Children's Speech and Language - achieving a Level 3 in Speech & Language support for 3-5s with Elklan and also completing a CPD workshop in Gestalt Language Processing. I have experience working with GLPs.

I currently offer: 8:00-14:30 or 8:00-16:30. I charge £7 an hour and this includes a home-cooked, healthy meal as well as a snack. I accept funded hours and tax free childcare. I can offer pick-up or drop-off from OLQM school. I can offer ad hoc childcare and after-school care but please contact me directly for availability.
