Part Time Nanny Job In Nelson
About Me
About Our Family
We are a warm, intentional homeschooling family of five, soon to be six, with a new baby due in August. Our home is calm, creative, and child-centred, and we place a strong emphasis on emotional security, hands-on learning, and meaningful play.
As a homeschooling parent, and during the day I am usually at home with the children for the morning and afternoon. We are looking for someone to work alongside our family — not in isolation — and to become a trusted, long-term support as our family grows.
We have a designated playroom and a separate craft room, which are well-stocked and regularly used as part of the children’s daily routines.
Our children are curious, imaginative, and very hands-on. They love creative play, crafts, role-play (especially superheroes and imaginative worlds), and activities that allow them to explore and engage rather than sit passively. They have been raised with Montessori-inspired principles and thrive when their time is purposeful and well-guided.
My Requirements
We are looking for a part-time nanny / mother’s helper to support us during a key window in the day so that I can focus on homeschooling our older children without constant interruption.
The primary responsibility will be caring for and engaging our 1-year-old and 3-year-old for a core 3–4 hour period within a 5-hour shift, approximately 11:00am–4:00pm, for 4–5 days per week (final schedule to be agreed).
We are looking for someone who can intentionally engage the younger children through:
Creative and age-appropriate activities
Crafts and hands-on play
Imaginative and role-play scenarios
Simple routines such as snack time, transitions, and tidy-up
We are not looking for someone to simply “keep the children busy,” but for someone who can lead their time with purpose, bringing ideas, structure, and initiative to the day.
This role will be a great fit for someone who:
Is confident taking initiative and creating activities independently,
Enjoys imaginative play and creative engagement,
Has a calm, warm, and patient manner with young children,
Is comfortable working in a home where parents are present, and understands that trust and independence grow over time
Fluent, native-level English is essential, as our children are very young and still developing their speech and language skills.
While outings and groups may be part of the role in the future, we are currently focused on helping the children build a secure relationship at home first. We are hoping to find someone interested in a long-term position, with the possibility of increased hours as our family grows and after the baby arrives.
We value clear communication, mutual respect, and a positive working relationship. We understand how important it is for a nanny to feel comfortable, appreciated, and supported, and we aim to create a home environment where that is genuinely felt.
When applying, please let us know how you would typically structure a 3–4 hour period with a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, and what kind of activities you enjoy planning for this age group?
We look forward to hearing from you.
