My Summary
About Me
At age 14, I founded a program for young, disadvantaged, girls to experience hands-on STEM (science, tech, engineering, and math), and be inspired by female scientists, as they have little access to it in American public schools. I also lead my high school’s debate team and am the Captain (and one of the founders of) my school’s lacrosse team. I care for and tutor children of all ages, (along with those with special needs) and am a Red Cross certified babysitter. I hope to pursue a career in international relations, teaching, or human rights and foreign affairs; the debate has put me on track to focus on a career path towards working with refugees (particularly supporting women and girls) and something in the world of human rights. Additionally, I was employed at a local gift shop for three years during high school and was an active Girl Scout and counsellor, leading 60+ young girls of all needs at summer camps. I now speak intermediate Italian and lived in Paris for a few years as a child, so mon français est pas mal. My parents have led international lives and careers, as a Special Director at UNESCO and as a professional author, teacher, and trained nanny, respectively. Along with my younger brother, Henry, I grew up living with and caring for my late 95-year-old grandfather. Now settled into my life in Edinburgh, I’ve worked as a nanny quite a bit, and I’m on the hunt for my next job doing what I love, working with kids!
My Experience
From ages 12-18, I babysat and tutored a multitude of neighbourhood children, ranging in ages from 9 months to 9 years. I worked anywhere from a 2 hour to 9 hour shift, and made all sorts of healthy meals, took them outside on adventures, planned games/activities, put them to bed, helped with potty-training, tutored in science and math (including for a few children with autism).
From ages 14-18, I ran a program for girls aged 5-12 to do hands-on STEM activities after school. I was the sole teacher and adult oftentimes, so for the 1.5 hour long class once a week, I led planned activities and cared for the girls.
At 18 I worked full time as an Au Pair, but more so as a nanny, for 3.5 months. I spent essentially 24 hours a day with the child, teaching her English whilst creating a routine for us to play, be outside, eat healthy, potty-train, do lots of art, and for her to learn and be creative. She was almost 2 at the time.
Later, I worked as an Au Pair for 2 months for two boys ages 2 and 4, I worked 7 hours a day, five days a week, playing with them, taking them on adventures, cleaning up with them, preparing their meals, conducting nap times, and teaching them using Montessori-style methods.
I also worked as an Au Pair to a nine year old girl, managing meals, creating a schedule, and coming up with fun games to help her learn English. I worked 8 hours a day for 7 days a week, for 3 months.
Last school year, I nannied kids from ages 2-9 in Edinburgh, with a variety of different needs.
Then I worked again this past summer as an Au Pair/nanny for an almost 3-year old, while also juggling work in hospitality.
