My Summary
Ofsted Registered Childminder
About Me
Little Learners is run by myself and my wife Sarah, who is also a registered childminder with Ofsted. Sarah has a BA honours in early years.
Sarah started Little Learners by herself, and I joined just over two years ago as her assistant.
We have three children aged 28, 21, and 20 years old, a Westie dog, and two cats.
My interests are in cars, music, football, DIY, family, holidays, and learning how to improve what I can do to help others.
I do like to spend time with my dad, who is 92. He is my hero, and I’ve learnt so much from his vast knowledge, experiences, and his continued encouragement for me to make it in life.
As a family man, I’ve found it’s always been important to show our children the right way to go about life, including going out and making your dreams come true. However, our children need to be guided where they should always be polite, knowledgeable, and helpful, respect others, and live life to the full and love the planet we are on, steering them to become better people.
My Experience
I’ve worked in the early years sector for over two years. We’re registered to accept children from birth and offer Early Years Funding 15/30 hours funding to children aged 9 months, 2 years, and 3-4 years.
I’ve worked alongside my wife for just over two years as an assistant, and I was previously chairman at a preschool from 2013 to 2015. This is where I developed my passion for early years learning.
I firmly believe that a home-from-home setting helps children develop confidence in separating from their families. Having a male dynamic in the setting has proven to be beneficial for all the children.
We work collaboratively with children, parents, and carers to ensure that your child’s stay with us is filled with fun and learning within a safe environment.
Children will blossom with confidence as they learn through their own and group experiences, guided by adult-led learning and play activities. This approach improves their overall learning, confidence, and knowledge, equipping them with the tools they need before they start school.
We understand and support children who need a little more time to learn at their own pace.
Between my wife and me, we’ve completed numerous courses, including Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding. This knowledge has enhanced my understanding of child development and the importance of protecting and caring for them, which I believe contributes to their learning experience.
We offer a wide range of exciting activities, such as walks in the woods, trips to the park, nature reserves, strawberry picking, visits to the bird world, garden centres, water play, challenging games, learning games, cooking, exploring, pond dipping, rubbing, running, climbing, trips to the library, churches, and interactions with other children to facilitate learning.
These are just a few of the ways we support your child’s learning. We cover a wide range of topics, including numbers, letters, shapes, colours, days of the week, months, years, manners, sharing, drawing, painting, writing, artwork, singing, and much more.
Allowing a child to explore and learn independently is a significant part of growing up. It helps build relationships, confidence, and the ability to try new things without fear. With encouragement, children can achieve anything.
We organise an annual Little Learners picnic in the park, where parents, carers, and children can have fun together. It’s a great opportunity to connect and meet other children they may not see during their busy week. It’s a fantastic family activity.
