Iona
Nanny in Hove (also available for babysitting)
My Summary
About Me
My name is Iona, I would describe myself as a creative, kind and caring person!
When working with children, I enjoy taking a child-led approach rooted in positive discipline, focusing on fostering independence, creativity, and emotional growth.
I love spending time outdoors with children as I believe it’s an amazing way to explore the world around them, especially with smaller children, exploring nature, going on walks, and encouraging curiosity.
I love incorporating imaginative play, using techniques from my degree when reading and using favourite toys with puppetry, dress-up, arts and crafts and sensory activities like cooking and water play, with plenty of opportunities for creativity.
I believe in building lasting bonds through trust, emotional regulation, and being a consistent, comforting presence, whether it’s cheering on new milestones or simply offering a hug during quiet moments.
In my spare time I love to cook and bake, sing, swimming (especially in the sea!), getting outside and exploring new areas, watching films and building Lego sets!
My Experience
I have over two and a half years experience in childcare, working as a teaching, SEND and nursery assistant with children aged four months to 18 years. I hold an advanced DBS and a paediatric first aid qualification.
After completing my degree in Acting back in 2023 I have been interested in combining my love of theatre and working with children.
From May 2025 I have been working as a part time freelance nanny with multiple different families across Brighton and Hove, mainly with children ages 4 months - 2 years. I am now working as a teaching assistant but will be free during school holidays and occasional evenings for childcare.
In my most recent full time role working as an assistant educator at a Nursery, I was based in the youngest room ranging from ages three months to 2 years. I also have experience working as a cook in the kitchen, where I have a level 2 food hygiene certification, and have prepared food for weening children, and catered for different allergies. At the nursery we used a combination of child lead, EYFS learning structure and a Reggio Emilia approach.
I previously worked in a through school with ages 2-18, Beechwood School, as a drama teaching assistant, with primary, secondary and sixth form, assisting both in the classroom and pastorally, as well as helping direct and stage manage the schools productions of 'Oliver!' and 'Matilda'. I also worked as a nursery assistant at the same school with children ages 2-4, with forest school sessions as well as cookery, dance, sport and a range of sensory activities including water play.
I also have experience assisting students with SEN and additional needs during my time at Beechwood, and helping with catch up sessions of English. I also previously worked at a school specialising with SEND and complex additional needs students, as well as students with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs, where I assisted with activities including hydro therapy.
My Qualifications
I have 10 GCSE’s, including maths and English, 3 A levels in Drama, Sociology and English Literature, and a degree in Acting.
I hold an advanced DBS, a paediatric first aid qualification and a level 2 food hygiene certification.
