My Summary
About Me
Hello, my name is Dorothy, but to the children I care for, I’m lovingly known as Auntie Dot. I am a passionate, experienced, and Ofsted-registered childminder based in the vibrant and diverse community of Brixton, South London. With over 20 years of experience in early childhood care and education, I provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children aged 3 months and above.
My Experience
At Auntie Dot’s Childcare, I believe that every child deserves the best start in life. My mission is to support each child’s individual needs while helping them grow emotionally, socially, and intellectually through structured play, routine, and care. My approach is child-centered and developmentally appropriate, guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. I create daily routines and activities that promote learning through play while encouraging independence, creativity, and confidence.
I am proud to operate from a warm and welcoming home setting that includes a purpose-built playroom filled with age-appropriate toys and educational materials. The space is thoughtfully designed to support the seven areas of learning and development outlined in the EYFS: communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. In addition to the indoor learning space, I have a lovely garden where children can enjoy outdoor play, gardening activities, and fresh air every day.
Auntie Dot’s Childcare is fully inclusive and culturally aware, reflecting the diverse community of Brixton. I promote kindness, respect, and equality, ensuring that every child feels valued and celebrated. I also offer healthy home-cooked meals, rest periods, and a structured but flexible schedule to meet the unique routines of both babies and older children.
I operate my childcare business with professionalism and integrity, staying up-to-date with legal regulations, training, and best practices. As an Ofsted-registered childminder, I am permitted to care for up to six children at a time, which allows me to provide personal attention and build close, trusting relationships with each child and their family. I also work closely with parents to ensure open communication and consistent care, including regular updates on children’s progress and development.
Children in my care regularly attend local playgroups, parks, libraries, and community events, giving them opportunities to socialise and explore the wider world. I plan weekly themes, activities, and outings to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Choosing Auntie Dot’s Childcare means choosing a setting where your child will be treated with love, patience, and respect—just like family. I am committed to helping children thrive and supporting families with reliable, high-quality childcare that adapts to their needs.
I invite you to get in touch and visit Auntie Dot’s Childcare to see the space and learn more about how I can support your child’s early learning journey.
