Hi, I Am A Childminder Based In Ilkeston Derbyshire. I Work With My Assistant And Daughter Lilly.
About Me
My name is Kym and I am an Ofsted registered child minder in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. I work with my daughter Lilly who is currently completing an apprenticeship in childcare. A bit about me…
I have 4 beautiful children of my own. Lilly, Hayden and Jaxon are all quite a bit older than Bodhi, he’s 21 months and the last little piece to our puzzle. The boys are currently at senior school and Lilly is completing an apprenticeship with me whilst working as my assistant. We live with my husband Sam and he also has 3 beautiful children who are all older.
I have previously worked in a local nursery, then as a care worker and a support worker, before returning to education. I have worked for the last 9 years as a Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant at a local SEN school, and also for a short time as a UQ teacher. I have a level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification and have worked with all ages from 4 years to post 16. I have completed courses in EYFS, Medicine Management, ADHD and Autism, Epilepsy, Attachment, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, Paediatric First Aid, Gastric feeding, Diabetes, Positive Play, Team Teach, Attention Autism, Bereavement, Child Attachment, food hygiene and many more over the years. We also all have up to date DBS checks for those over 16 living in our house, and I am a DSL. I’m have completed a food allergy and intolerance training course, and have lots of EYFS knowledge to ensure the children with me reach their full potential. Lilly is also paediatric first aid trained and has completed her safeguarding training also. She has lots of experience with children of different ages and the children within our setting absolutely love her.
I like to think I am very creative and have always found lots of fun activities for my own children and those who I have worked with. I believe that children learn and progress better when they are having fun! I offer a ‘home from home’ care for children, within our happy family home.
We enjoy lots of outdoor time, exploring nature and also love messy play! We offer lots of crafts, cooking, role play and educational activities. We have lots of amazing toys and resources i’d like to go out and about in our local area as well as trips further a field often. I have a summerhouse on our garden (The Cub House) that we use as an outdoor classroom. I also have an outdoor play space with soft play and a mud kitchen. I have a 4 seater wagon that we decorate at different points of the year as well as a 2 double buggies and 2 singles. Perfect for adventures!
