EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
1. Job Title: Early Help Substance Use Coordinator/Family Plus Worker
Employer: Barca Leeds, LS12 2LB, United Kingdom
Start Date: July 2023 End Date: July 2024
Main Duties:
I fulfilled 2 roles during my time at Barca Leeds due to an internal job offer after 6 months of working with the charity.
Initially, I started as an Early Help Substance Use Coordinator. I worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Leeds Early Help Hubs, providing support to families and young people. Leeds Early Help enables services to work together to help as soon as families need it. In this role, I worked with various professionals, including the Police, Mental Health Coordinators, and Domestic Abuse Coordinators, to establish best practices for families in need, particularly when a young member of the family was impacted by substances. My team and I also provided support and guidance for professionals on substance use as well as signposting to the Forward Leeds service for those who required structured support. I was then offered a role working with the ‘Family Plus’ Team.
As a Family Plus Worker, I worked within the Forward Leeds Charity supporting families of service users engaged in treatment for issues with drugs and alcohol. I engaged with these families on a preventative and early help model, whose requirements are below the child protection social work threshold. The purpose of the engagement was to improve the functioning of the family and assist in getting available support to maintain changes. My role involved developing and implementing individualised support plans, signposting and facilitating access to services, and advocating for the needs of vulnerable families. I worked closely with parents and children to build trusting relationships, providing guidance and support to help them overcome challenges and improve their wellbeing. Often, this role required me to work alone and manage my own diary; ensuring I made time for home visits, travel and time to write up accurate case notes allowed me to significantly develop my organisational skills. My role also allowed my team and I to train internal colleagues on “Working with the Family in Mind” which highlighted the importance of safeguarding as everyone’s responsibility, and encouraged professionals to consider the needs of children involved in the lives of service users who are in treatment at Forward Leeds.
2. Job Title: McDonalds Crew Member
Employer: McDonalds, LS20 9NE, United Kingdom
Start Date: September 2020 End Date: June 2023
Main Duties:
My role as a crew member was fast-paced and required a high level of teamwork, particularly during busy periods. I consistently prioritized being a friendly and approachable team member towards both customers and my colleagues. This ensured customers felt welcomed and comfortable in the restaurant, and my colleagues felt at ease about confronting me with any issues or questions, which created an enjoyable work environment for everybody. Within this role, I was trusted to train new staff members; when doing this, I communicate clearly and effectively, explaining what different tasks entail. It was important to ensure colleagues felt their work was noticed and appreciated, particularly during their training period, in order to build positive relationships and increase their motivation.
3. Job Title: Waitress/Barista
Employer: Tiplings Tea Rooms, LS29 9EE, United Kingdom
Start Date: June 2017 End Date: July 2020
Main Duties:
During my time at Tiplings Tearoom, I was entrusted with training new staff members, ensuring they felt comfortable approaching me with any questions and providing ongoing encouragement throughout their training. I was also given the responsibility of opening and managing the café, overseeing daily operations to ensure smooth running and excellent service.
Delivering outstanding customer service was a top priority, and I made sure every customer was satisfied with their experience. Building rapport with customers was essential, and I took pride in creating a welcoming environment where regular visitors felt at ease and valued. Many customers returned not just for the food but to engage with the staff, reflecting the importance of friendly, personable service.
VOLUNTEERING & WORK EXPERIENCE
1. Work Experience at Red Kite View Childrens Mental Health Ward
Location: Red Kite View LS12 3BY, United Kingdom
Start Date: February 2023 End Date: February 2023
Main Duties:
During my work experience at Red Kite View, I shadowed a variety of health professionals as they carried out their day-to-day responsibilities caring for vulnerable children on the ward. Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills were essential in this role, as I had to absorb key information about the children’s circumstances while also contributing my own ideas and input during meetings, all with the goal of safeguarding and acting in the best interests of the children.
This experience greatly enhanced my teamwork skills, as I regularly participated in reviews with a multi-disciplinary team. These reviews underscored the importance of collaboration in ensuring the smooth and safe running of the ward. One of the most rewarding aspects of the role was engaging with the children directly; approaching them with empathy and compassion helped build trust. By the end of my placement, I had developed good relationships with the children, who felt comfortable opening up to me.
2. Volunteer Co-Facilitator at Leeds Recovery College
Location: Leeds Recovery College LS14 1PP, United Kingdom
Start Date: April 2022 End Date: June 2023
Main Duties:
As part of my degree, I completed a professional placement with NHS Leeds Recovery College (LRC), where I supported individuals seeking help for themselves or others regarding mental health and wellbeing. My responsibilities included providing students with useful information and assisting in the creation of course content for facilitators to deliver across the various programmes offered by LRC.
Following the placement, I was offered a permanent volunteering role. This experience has solidified my passion for supporting those in need and has deepened my understanding of inclusivity, allowing me to appreciate a wide range of perspectives. Remaining non-judgemental was key, as the LRC aims to enhance the lives of those seeking support by providing an inclusive and comfortable environment where individuals can be their authentic selves.
