My Summary
About Me
I am a warm, friendly, empathetic, and patient teacher, as well as a proud mum of two teenagers. With over 30 years of experience teaching children across all age groups, my passion lies in supporting neurodiverse learners and those with SEND. This commitment is deeply personal, shaped by close experience within my own family, and has given me a strong understanding of the importance of trust, consistency, and empathy in meeting the unique needs of each child. I firmly believe that every child has something valuable to offer—even when others may not immediately see it. I view all behaviour, whether positive or challenging, as a form of communication that reflects deeper needs, and I strive to respond with patience and understanding.
In addition to teaching, my family and I have had the enriching experience of hosting international students from a Bristol-based international school. This has brought great joy to our home and broadened our cultural understanding—an experience we hope to build on with reciprocal visits to Europe and Colombia next year.
My Experience
I am currently a teacher at a mainstream secondary school in North Somerset, working within a specialised provision that supports students with a range of needs, including SEND, medical conditions, social and emotional challenges, and behavioural difficulties. Prior to this, I served as an Assistant Head Teacher at a primary school—coincidentally, the same school I attended as a child. My teaching background includes roles at several faith-based primary schools, including Avonmouth CE Primary School and St. Bonaventure’s RC Primary School. I have also taught at secondary level in schools such as Monks Park School, St. Katherine’s, and Ravenswood Special School in Nailsea. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with children from diverse backgrounds and have always prioritised building strong, trusting relationships with families and carers.
My Qualifications
I have a post graduate degree in teaching studies from Roehampton Institute London with Qualified teaching status.
My Availability
I am available to babysit on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s from 6 p.m. and on Saturday’s (day and evening/overnight) if there are occasions that need a sitter, however I am not able to do this weekly due to my family commitments. I would be open to discuss longer periods, such as school holidays, if enough notice is given. During the school holidays, e.g. Summer 2025, I would be able to offer more hours.
