My Summary
About Me
Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
I started my career in nurseries as a practitioner and worked my way up to senior, deputy and management in children's homes and supported living.
As a practitioner I had a fun and goofy side that would be at the children's level rolling about on the floor, I adapted to my roles as I worked my way up to management and learnt the importance of leading a team and safeguarding to keep the children and home environment safe and secure for the children's wellbeing. Although I had to act in a professional way i have never lost goofiness and always found ways to make the children smile and laugh. I find laughter a good technique to calm and regulate children.
It is my priority to make children feel safe and heard, their visions and feelings are important all while safeguarding them and providing stability.
I know my children will tell you that i spontaneously dress to impress whether it be as a fairy or superhero, i'm not afraid to make a 'fool' of myself. When they laugh I laugh.
I love the outdoors, at home we have a zoo! 3 dogs, 4 ferrets, a cat and 3 spiders. Being outside rain or shine is something I will not say no to.
I have two children of my own so I know the qualities parents are looking for and I would not want anything less for your children than I give to mine. All children need love and nurturing to grow and learn.
I have always provided enriching, educational activities through play and feel this is the best way for children to learn.
My Experience
I have worked in a variety of settings within childcare, including Nurseries, Children's homes and Supported living. I have worked with newborns professionally and personally due to having my own children. The ages I have worked with range from newborn up to 19 years of age.
I have managed two supported living homes one with three young people under 18 who had mental health needs and self harming behaviours. The other home was one young person who was 19 with SEN needs and challenging behaviours. I worked closely with all professionals including social workers and parents to the children.
At the beginning of my career I learnt how to teach children by providing enriching educational activities through play and sensory.
My youngest daughter aged 7 has PDA Autism so i have first hand experience managing challenging behaviours and taken the time to learn triggers and ways of regulating the behaviours she shows. My oldest daughter aged 10 has struggled with anxiety and not wanting to attend school. I worked closely with their school to provide a safe environment and make sure their voices were heard. I am confident to be able to communicate between all those involved in your child's life to make sure they are happy and feeling their best.
I have trained with east sussex NHS partnership in PBS ( positive behaviour support plans)
This enabled me to learn how to identify patterns of behaviour and the triggers that cause those behaviours to potentially happen. It helps make a clear plan for those around the child to help support them to regulate in to a calm happy zone and prevent them from entering the 'Red zone' where they may feel angry, upset and unsafe. I feel it is important to know and learn this for each individual child to help care for them the best with their individual needs.
