My Summary
About Me
Hey!
I’m Amy - a fun, friendly, and engaging GCSE biology tutor.
I love helping students fall in love with biology. My goal is always to nurture their curiosity and build their self-belief, while giving them the skills and knowledge they need to enter their exams with confidence.
As a scientist and artist, I bring a unique, fun, visual approach. Tutoring sessions with me are different from the standard classroom approach. I design each lesson to be interactive while helping my students think critically about scientific concepts.
My students come away with a rich understanding of complex concepts. Becoming exam ready while also understanding the world around them.
My Experience
I've been teaching for many years in primary and secondary schools. I also have over a year of experience tutoring online.
Why Lessons With Me Hit Different : My aim is to nurture curiosity in my students. During our lessons together, I encourage questions and sharing about other school subjects and relevant things that might interest them. I break down complex topics in biology by creating parallels with their everyday lived experiences. As a result, no more rote learning. Instead, I teach them to think like a scientist, even beyond GCSE Biology.
Making Dry Biological Concepts Engaging : Unlike classroom settings, I am able to delve into complex topics. I challenge their understanding on the subject matter while filling in gaps in their knowledge. With this approach, I help them develop scientific and critical thinking skills. By the time exams come around, they have a grounding in the theory plus the ability to think through any tough questions they are faced with.
Care : I truly care for my students. Having worked in various mental health roles, I understand the pressures of GSCE and school life on students. I will always make time for them to voice and work through any concerns or worries so that they leave my sessions feeling supported and encouraged.
GCSE Exam Boards : I teach according to AQA, Edexcel, OCR or IGCSE exam board specifications. My teaching method is focused on developing critical thinking, allowing students to tackle any question that might come up in an exam.
My Qualifications
Scientific Experience : I graduated from the University of Bristol with a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with a focus on Biochemistry & Neuroscience. I have undertaken lab research in medical microbiology and worked on Alzheimer’s research. I have also worked in various roles in the NHS within the Neuroscience Department for South West England.
