My Summary
A Safe Home-From-Home Where Curious Little Minds Thrive
About Me
Hello, my name is Sarah and I am a passionate and dedicated OFSTED registered childminder. I offer a warm, nurturing and inspiring environment where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn. With over 10 years’ experience as a qualified primary school teacher, alongside my childcare background, I bring a strong educational foundation together with a deep understanding of children’s early development, learning styles and individual needs.
I believe in creating a loving, calm and stimulating home-from-home setting where children can thrive and grow. I follow the Montessori approach, encouraging children to become confident, independent and curious learners through hands-on, child-led activities. Children are gently guided and supported by caring adults, allowing them to explore, discover and develop at their own pace through a variety of play-based and real-life learning experiences.
My setting is based in a large purpose-built lodge situated in the garden, which has been thoughtfully designed and divided into dedicated areas for play and exploration, babies and quieter activities, focused learning, and eating and social time. This allows children of different ages and stages to feel comfortable, secure and stimulated throughout the day. In addition, we are fortunate to have a large garden which is used daily for outdoor play, physical activity and learning, supporting children’s confidence, creativity and understanding of the world around them.
Each day is carefully planned to include a balance of structured activities and free play, tailored to children’s interests and developmental stages. I also prioritise providing healthy, nutritious meals, offering a varied and balanced menu that supports growth and development while catering for individual dietary needs and preferences. This helps children develop positive eating habits and an appreciation of different foods from an early age.
Strong partnerships with parents are very important to me. I value clear, open communication, providing regular updates and photos so parents feel fully involved in their child’s day and development. My overall goal is to support each child’s individual needs while helping them build confidence, social skills and a genuine love of learning.
If you are looking for a friendly, loving and educational setting where your child will be cared for in safe and capable hands, I would be delighted to welcome you. Please feel free to get in touch to arrange a visit or to find out more about availability — I would be happy to show you around and answer any questions.
My Experience
Our setting benefits from my personal expertise as a childcare professional and qualified primary school teacher, with over ten years’ experience working in primary education between 2003 and 2013. During this time, I developed a strong understanding of teaching, learning and child development across the primary age range. Alongside my professional experience, I am also a mother of three grown-up children (27, 23, 16), which has given me invaluable first-hand insight into child development, emotional wellbeing and the importance of a nurturing, responsive environment.
I have extensive experience supporting children with additional needs, both professionally and personally. Between 2013 and 2016, I dedicated time to caring for my son with special educational needs, which deepened my understanding of neurodiversity, inclusive practice and the importance of individualised support. As a parent to an autistic son, I bring empathy, patience and real-life experience of supporting children with differing needs, strengths and communication styles. This is further strengthened by my formal qualification in caring for children with special educational needs, enabling me to adapt learning opportunities and routines to meet each child’s individual needs.
From 2016 to 2022, I worked within further education colleges as an Internal Quality Assurer, where I assessed work produced by students and assessors to ensure it met required standards across a range of settings, including examinations and professional practice environments. This role enhanced my attention to detail, reflective practice and commitment to high-quality provision, all of which I now embed within my childcare practice.
Since 2022, I have returned to early years childcare and nursery settings, where I continue to embed my broad knowledge, skills and experience across education, quality assurance and family life. This combination of primary teaching, early years practice, further education experience and lived family experience allows me to provide care that is both educationally strong and emotionally supportive.
My approach places great importance on inclusion, wellbeing and building confidence. I aim to create a calm, encouraging environment where every child feels safe, understood and valued, and where they are supported to develop independence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning. Children are encouraged to “have a go,” to take pride in their achievements and to celebrate the successes of their peers.
Through consistent routines, strong relationships and carefully planned activities, children are supported to become confident, capable learners who are well prepared for the transition into school. I work closely with parents to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met, and I am committed to providing a setting where children can thrive socially, emotionally and academically.
