Private Tutor in Romsey
My Summary
About Me
I am an experienced qualified teacher and specialist SEN tutor, currently leading and designing bespoke specialist provision within a mainstream primary school. I work extensively with children with ADHD, autism (ASD) and related needs, as well as children experiencing sensory processing differences, SEMH needs, anxiety, and disrupted or challenging educational journeys.
My Experience
I have a strong, practical understanding of the main areas of need and how these impact learning day to day — including communication and interaction, attention and executive functioning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, cognition and learning, and social-emotional development. This allows me to adapt teaching precisely to each child, rather than relying on one-size-fits-all approaches.
My tutoring goes far beyond providing extra academic support. I specialise in readiness to learn — helping children feel regulated, safe and confident enough to engage with learning. Many of the children I support have struggled with behaviour, school avoidance, low self-esteem or limited progress despite previous interventions.
I offer highly personalised 1:1 tutoring in:
• Early reading and phonics
• Writing and fine motor development
• Maths using concrete, multisensory approaches
• Emotional regulation, engagement and learning routines
Sessions are carefully planned around the child’s developmental stage, not just their age or year group. I draw on in-depth training and experience in sensory-motor integration, trauma-informed practice and early child development (particularly ages 0–7), adapting teaching to how each child processes movement, sensory input and emotion.
Parents often tell me the first changes they notice are not academic results, but that their child is calmer, more confident and more willing to engage. From there, meaningful progress follows.
I work collaboratively with families and, where appropriate, schools and other professionals. I am particularly experienced in supporting children who:
• Have ADHD or autism and find traditional classroom learning overwhelming
• Are struggling with attention, regulation, sensory needs or emotional overwhelm
• Have experienced reduced timetables, exclusion or school refusal
• Need learning rebuilt through play, movement and trusted relationships
My approach is nurturing but purposeful, structured but flexible, and always focused on helping children feel capable, understood and successful as learners.
If you are looking for a tutor who truly understands why your child may be struggling — not just what they are struggling with — I would be very happy to talk.
