Hello we are miles of smiles childcare
Hello, my name is Jodie and I co work with my mum Janet Speirs
we are Ofsted registered childminders in the Islington N1 area just off Essex road with close links to Highbury & Islington and the city.
we have a lovely playroom with a range of fun, educational, interactive toys and activities so children can explore more.
We have a large garden filled with sand, water, soft play, trampoline and many more for the children to learn and have fun with, we pride ourselves in creating activities and experiences for children in a comfortable and happy environment providing lots stimulating activities, trips outdoors, following the EYFS.
We encourage children to be themselves and support there development individually and as a group through play.
At Miles of smiles we love getting creative with lots of messy and sensory play.
We here at Miles of Smiles provide healthy daily fresh homecooked meals with snacks throughout the day.
We attend regular stay and play during the week and often go off and explore such as feeding the ducks, going to the zoo, museums, walks down the canal and the local library.
We provide parents with daily diaries filled with a breakdown of children's days and learning journey books, filled with photos and tracking showing the children’s journeys and fun in our setting.
We have loved watching our children grow in our setting enabling them to feel confident to move on and explore the big wide world
we are still in contact with children that have moved on as at Miles of Smiles we all become a extended family unit.
I myself have worked with children for around 12 years in various roles such as nursery nurse, nanny, babysitting and childminding, am also a proud mummy to my daughter aged 11 and my son aged 5.
I am a fully qualified level 4 in childcare and management practitioner, Janet has been a childminder for 15 years and has also worked in a nursery setting, including being room leader in Montessori nursery as well as being proud mummy and nanny.
We both also have First aid, Child protection, Food hygiene, To be Two, Life at Two, Schemas , health and safety , food hygiene and various other training and qualifications. we have been rated a good from Ofsted in 2021 and are always updating our knowledge with new courses.

Our now 14-month-old daughter has been looked after by Jodie and her mum Janet since she was 5 months old. We were a bit apprehensive about sending her to childcare at such a young age but we needn't have worried - Jodie and Janet made her feel like part of the family from day one. They are friendly, caring, reliable and accommodating. They are also very flexible and have even provided last-minute childcare for us on occasion.
They have a lovely garden and often take the children out on walks, to the park and to stay and play sessions. Our daughter was even lucky enough to be taken on a trip to to London Zoo! The children also eat delicious-sounding healthy meals every day.
The location is very convenient - they are located just off Essex Road and close to trains and buses into the City or central London.
Thanks to Jodie and Janet's encouragement, our daughter has become sociable and confident. She has also benefited massively from being in a mixed-age setting, so if you are in two minds about whether to choose nursery or a childminder, I would say pick the latter.
We felt very happy dropping our daughter off at Jodie and Janet's every day, and seeing her smile when we arrived each morning assured us that she felt just as happy there.
The only reason we are leaving is because we're moving to a different area. We wish we could take Jodie and Janet with us! Highly recommend.

My 3 yo has been with Jodie (and his mum, Janet) 4 days a week for most of this year so far. They are very professional, reliable and employ all the good practices you want to see in a childcare setting. My little one had some behavioural issues to start with, very natural for a toddler but I feel probably also aggrevated by the lockdowns... Within a few months she was completely turned around and is now an angel, very social and polite. All thanks to the loving environment and consequential training she has been exposed to at Jodie's!
They have a fab garden for outdoor fun, a dedicated play room inside, the whole setting is perfectly catered around children almost like a "mini nursery" but with the type of homely setting a lot of us mums want for our younger toddlers. They provide a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fruit and home cooked meals and they have been very good at communicating with me about my little one's everydays. They have been great friends not just to my daugther but to me too!
I never felt nervous leaving my daughter with them, not even during the first few weeks, they are just so good with children, I trust them implicitly.
They accept 15/30 hours free but are affordable without it too, the location is also a plus, with a tesco just on the corner and very close to Essex Road station!
Much recommended, cannot fault them!

Jodie looked after our son for 3.5 days a week for just over a year from the age of 15 months. Working alongside her mum, she provided a safe and stimulating environment for our son where he developed well and learnt good manners and how to interact with other children of various ages. Jodie is very kind and caring and the children always ate good food and healthy snacks. They had several trips to the zoo, museums and regular visits to local children's centres. She is very easy to communicate with and we felt confident that our son received excellent care whilst there. We miss Jodie and Janet and only left as we relocated. Would definitely recommend Jodie.

My 11 month old son was looked after Jodie for 8 months before we moved overseas.
He loved every minute with Jodie and we were so happy with the care and love that he received from Jodie, in a fun and stimulating environment. I would definitely recommend Jodie as a childminder.
