My name is Jenny Leatherland and I live with my husband and my youngest child. I have 3 children, my eldest, 24, is a teacher and my son 20 is a HGV mechanic/site maintenance manager and my littlest is 6 and a fully fledged member of our little team.
I am a Ofsted registered childminder and have 13 years professional childminding experience and 24 years experience as a working Mom myself (I left my oldest son, now 20, with a childminder) so I understand completely, how important it is that you feel comfortable and confident with any childcare setting. My services offer a real home from home, caring environment where children are made to feel safe and loved and so are able to develop and learn effectively in a fun and family orientated surrounding.
I am very privileged to say that I have fantastic working relationships with the parents of the children in my care and we work together on developing skills such as self confidence, speech, social interaction, play, academics, toilet training, appropriate behaviour and school readiness amongst many other things. I’m also extremely happy to say my parents all have great relationships with each other, it’s cheesy, but we are all very much like a huge family.
I follow the guidance of the EYFS and make weekly observations on the children in my care and use tapestry to plot the children’s development and to plan activities to support their individual development and needs, parents have full access to their child’s account and can comment or even upload their own pictures of the fun they have with their children.
My children are high achievers and have been mostly straight A students (well the oldest two obviously but we have high hopes for the littlest one), respectful and loving and they also have great relationships with the children in my care, my eldest was my registered assistant when she lived at home, she graduated from The University of Birmingham after studying psychology and so is now a bachelor of science. She is currently a teacher and is extremely excited about her new career path, she eventually wants to specialise in the area of autism within mainstream education. My eldest son is currently a HGV mechanic and very excited and determined to make the most of his career, our youngest is in there in the thick of it with the kiddies, playing his little heart out with all of his little friends.
We (my assistant is my daughter-in-law Jess) strive to be a family run setting with family values for the children in our care, somewhere they truly feel at home, welcomed and loved. We are not, nor try to be, a day nursery.
We offer a loving environment for children, who learn naturally through interactive, mostly child led play. We have so much fun on a daily basis and offer an extended family to the little ones (and their families) that we care for.
Education is important to me and I have always taught my children naturally and at their own pace (my six year old has been a fluent reader for over a year) with support and believe that a warm loving upbringing goes hand in hand with a good learning ethic.
I am very flexible for my parents and always try to make myself available for any emergency care requirements (ie school closures) we managed to remain open during the pandemic with no COVID cases in my setting, due to our rapid changes in routines and regimes surrounding cleaning, hygiene, general risk assessments and dealing with children’s illnesses.
Please feel free to get in touch, I now only offer out of hours visits for prospective parents and their children due to the current circumstances as I can not put the existing children at risk. I do have a prospectus that can be emailed or took home to read at your leisure and have even done virtual tours of my home.
I offer settling in sessions (2 hour slots, no more than 5 sessions) free of charge so that we can get to know one another.
My home is situated in a quiet crescent, away from main roads and there is off road parking available for parents so that children can be placed safely into cars. I live near many quiet parks and within a pleasant walking distance to a very friendly playgroup.
My home is safe and fully child friendly. The children have a room completely dedicated to their needs full of toys and activities, tables and chairs for meal times, cooking, colouring and creating or just some good old fashioned 'messy playtime' we also find ourselves in the kitchen planning and creating our meals or just making some cookies and cupcakes for the fun of it, the children also have their own toilet facilities. My home has a large fully enclosed back garden, with a shed full of different outdoor toys and activities, we also have a mud kitchen and large apparatus to explore.
We provide a daily journal for the younger children that we fill in everyday with the children's adventures and pictures of fun moments and encourage our parents to join in and write anything they like in there too we also use tapestry, an online tool that parents have complete access to their child’s progress and can also comment and even add pictures of the fun they have at home.
I think that my parents opinions are the most reliable sources of information and the reviews that are on my profile are from genuine parents of children that are either still in my care or I have cared for, NOT from other childminders. All of my parents are willing to be contacted as references.
We are a non smoking family.
We have a 1 year old dog, a beagle named Buddy who does not have access to the children in any way.
We do provide home schooling for children who’s schools have closed due to the pandemic as long as you can provide the tech, we provide the support and worksheets.
13 years experience as a registered childminder and 24 years as a loving and extremely proud parent. I have worked with special needs children (autistic spectrum, behavioural issues) during the time that I have been childminding so have SEN training and experience, I also have experience with diabetes, skin conditions, speech development, english as an additional language, severe food allergies and food restrictions due to religion. I am experienced and practice healthy food choices and eating habits as I was a chef before becoming a childminder.
The reviews on my profile are from genuine parents of children that have been or still are in my care, all my parents are happy to give you a reference on my behalf.
**please be aware of bad mouthing amongst childminders, it's very unprofessional but unfortunately there are a few out there that will bad mouth other childminders to gain business, sad and pathetic but true!! A good childminder wouldn't dream of doing this, fortunately the good childminders outweigh the bad! If in doubt always check that references are from genuine parents, ask for their phone numbers and talk to them directly, a honest, genuine childminder will not hesitate!!**
I have a NVQ level 3 in childcare and a HND in catering.
I have safeguarding, Special educational needs, Health and safety, equal opportunities, diversity and behaviour training amongst many others.
Both me, and my full time assistant (my daughter-in-law) are fully trained in Paediactric first aid, hold current food hygiene certificates and up to date safeguarding training.
I was also a member of the local childminding network (unfortunately disbanded now) which offered many opportunities to train and also supplied a brilliant support system for both me and the parents of the little ones I care for.
I NO LONGER HAVE SPACES AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!
Please message me for full or part time school holiday slots (without permanent contracts having to be signed).
I also do flexible contracts and a pay as you go system to allow for shift workers and rolling weeks for rota workers so that your never paying for any care that your not using.
My parents are more than willing to be contacted directly for references or just an informal chat about my setting.
Feel free to contact me for immediate starts of older children if they attend Causeway Green Primary School or school holiday slots.
I am available from 7:00am to 6:00pm from Monday to Friday but I'm always open to being flexible for my moms. Although I don't work week ends or bank holidays.
I'm happy to provide one off emergency care for instances such as emergency school closures, snow days, school closures due to pandemic, etc

Finding a setting and somebody you can trust to take care of your little one can be so difficult , time consuming and heart rendering. As soon as we met Jenny the warmth and compassion that she has in bucket loads overwhelmed us and gave us the confidence that our Daughter would be in very safe hands. How right we were !!! Jenny and Jess have massively contributed to the remarkable development of our Daughter in such a short space of time. The commitment to the safety and well being of our child during these very difficult times has been second to none. Clean , very friendly , approachable and very informative in the development of your child. I cannot speak highly enough of both Jenny and Jess. If your looking for a first class , safe and secure setting then look no further.
When searching for a childminder I came across childcare.co.uk. I am so glad that I did as I found Jenny's Little People!
I send a message to Jenny straightaway requesting further information, explaining our circumstances and to see what availability she had. Jenny replied straightaway and we gladly went for a visit.
My 1 year old granddaughter settled in straightaway whilst myself and son had time to chat with Jenny.
Well what can I say it was an instant decision from that moment and we knew that there would be no other childminder that we would want our precious little madam to be with.
I can't thank Jenny and Jess enough for all the care that they have provided as well as the educational topics that they do with the children especially the little ones to get them ready for big school. We are now 3 years in, my granddaughter loves going to Jenny's Little People, she started school nursery in September (very advanced for her age thanks to the early education at Jenny's) and she still goes to Jenny's after school as Jenny does the school run for the children of school age.
Now my daughter-in-law has also moved her to girls to Jenny's Little People and she could not believe the difference from the last childminder who did nothing and the girls not enjoying it to them loving going to Jenny's.
Jenny and Jess I can't thank you enough for coming into our lives and becoming part of our family as Jenny's Little People is one big family and we all come together helping the children celebrating special occasion with fun days, fancy dress and parties on top of the education you provide ❤
When deciding to put my little one into childcare , I worried and didn't know where to start , what to look for etc. And after viewing multiple settings of different types etc , I will be forever thankful than I stumbled upon Jenny's little people.
Abbi started with Jenny at just 8 months old , and since then she has excelled in all aspects , she thoroughly enjoys going , in fact sometimes on a non childminding day I bribe her with going to see Jenny and Jess just to get her dressed 🤣
Jenny and Jess are both so caring , loving , patient to name a few! Always there if you have any worries , or concerns and extremely helpful , and give it 110% for the kids in there care.
I would highly highly recommend sending your little one here , it's a very big decision to put your child in the right care and I can assure you , you wouldn't regret sending them to Jenny!
Abbi is now 2 and will continue here until she starts school , and her little sister will be joining her in a few months.
After a horrific experience with a childminder I found on this site Jenny really helped me out and went out of her way when I was left in tears.
Since my little girl Esme has been in her care two days a week for the last few months she has become a lot more sociable and confident. Jenny is understanding and does what ever she can to be flexible and to help you out when in a tough spot.
I can tell from my daughter's behaviour that she loves being at Jenny's, she is progressing and developing in many wonderful days which is all documented which is great to see.
I have peace of mind when I leave my daughter with Jenny and her team that she is left in a loving, caring, safe environment and her individual needs are met. It's great to see my daughter reaching out for Jenny to pick her up out of my arms. I couldn't say enough she is amazing with my little girl xx
Jenny was recommended to me by a friend whose little one was attending as I was looking for a childcare setting to introduce our son to nurseries and to give him confidence in being around other adults and children.
Jenny was easy to contact and answered all of my questions. Having worked in childcare I knew the background and was wary of where to send our son. On first meeting Jenny she made me and Noah feel completely at ease. I felt like I was having a cuppa with an old friend. Every child there was happy, content and polite. We had settling in sessions and was updated with how he was getting on and was made to feel that we could contact her at any time if we felt we wanted to.
Leaving your child, your sole main treasure in someone else's care is a very big deal. With Jenny it's not like that in the slightest. Every visit she and Jayne make you feel welcome and at ease. I love the home from home feel and unlike nurseries it's not crowded and Noah has time to play and learn at his own pace. He's come on leaps and bounds with their guidance and I cannot fault Jenny one bit.
He stays for his lunch and he comes home with a little book, photos are sometimes put in there which is wonderful.
Jenny's house is immaculate. I cannot praise this team enough. Our son recognises her road and gets excited to go there! He comes out a very happy boy, content and full of smiles! I know he is cared for completely while in Jenny's care. They have become a part of ours and Noah's lives and have become so very close which is wonderful to have found in a childcare setting.
The fees are more than reasonable and his lunches are of such a high standard. I would recommend Jenny to any parent that is unsure if a childminder is for them. I looked around nurseries and other childminders and no one or nowhere came close. Really over the moon to have found Jenny!
