About Me

Welcome to Wildflower Childcare

My name is Claire and I run Wildflower Childcare, which is a “home from home”, Ofsted registered, early years childminding setting. I have over 20 years experience working with early years children in a variety of settings. I have an Early Years Professional Status, BaHons in Childhood Studies and a childminder qualification. I have an up to date DBS check. When you visit my home my certificates are available for inspection. I am also a mum of four wonderful boys and an owner of Max the dog and a few fishes.

Ethos at the Wildflower Childcare.

I aim to provide the best possible care for your child. My home is a warm, friendly, safe, and creative space for young children to thrive. I offer a child centred environment, which truly honours the uniqueness of each child. My setting aims to meet the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional needs of your child.
I am passionate about child led development; in my home children are given time to unfold at their own pace, with plenty of opportunities for uninterrupted play-based exploration and physical activity. I am passionate about child led play and believe that this is the true work of the early years child.
I aim to provide a calm, organised, nurturing environment, which is gently stimulating for young children. I usually aim to work with three children so they have enough space within my home to play and explore and so that I can offer lots of quality attention and care.

Rhythm and routine

Rhythm and routine are essential for young children to feel safe and secure and for this reason it is the cornerstone of my setting. Each day follows a simple rhythm of free play (child led), as well as more structured activities (which may vary depending on the age range of the children) such as simple craftwork and handwork activities, baking bread, painting/drawing, outdoor playtime, garden activities, and a daily walk allowing for a connection to nature and to get lots of fresh air! The days are enriched with singing and stories. A strong sense of rhythm runs through the day, week and year, with activities that follow the cycle of the seasons and the celebration of cultural festivals.

When my children return from school we have chilled time, they may have a short period of screen time after their long day.

There is always plenty of time for playing! We spend time outside, everyday, regardless of weather. We use outdoor play spaces such as Stanmer park, Saltdean Oval, the Big Park and Friston Forest.

We also attend clubs/ activities in the local community. These include: Messy play Playgroup and The Library and Paradise Park Newhaven.

For a special treat we may go to Middle Fam, Washbrookes or Blackberry Farm. If this occurs there may be an extra charge.

My Experience

What better experience is there than having your own child ! I also have a degree in Childhood Studies where I gained experience working in schools and Children Centre's and a Montessori School.

Before my family I worked in Early Years settings for 10 years, managing settings and rooms. Ensuring the best learning environment for families and their children,

I have a firm understanding of the EYFs and worked within nursery management. Prior to working in nurseries I worked with a variety of families as a nanny, who I built life long friendships with.

Since becoming a mum I have been a nanny and taken my children with me. My duties are normally soul charge, cooking and planning fun activities.
I loved being a nanny, meeting new families and forming a strong supportiveness bond. I wanted to start Childminding to take my practice and knowledge further and create a business with a learning ethos im passionate about.

I have gained my Early Years Teacher Status aswell as my degree. I have worked alongside nursery management providing fun, varied and a loving learning environment for around ten years prior to my family. I worked in a few nurseries, managing staff and the children’s learning environment.
