About Me

IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY FROM MID AUGUST 2023 MONDAY & THURSDAY

My name is Melanie Campbell, and I am 46 years old. I am happily married to Scott, who I have been with since 1995. We have 2 children, Erin 20 & Elliot 16. We live in a modern development in Inchcross Grange in Bathgate, close to local amenities, parks, local authority nurseries and schools, where I can drop off and collect from as part of our contractual agreement for childcare. I live in the catchment area for St Mary’s Primary/ELC and Simpsons Primary/ELC but can discuss other schools/ELC in the surrounding area, if required. I have always had a passion for childcare and since having my first child in 2003, I decided to enter the world of childminding. I currently hold 16.5 years’ experience in the childcare industry – 15 years Childminding and most recently 2.5 years as a Nursery Manager, and I have a natural passion for the job. As a busy mother of 2 myself, I understand the daily demands and responsibilities involved in caring for children, and I believe that the service, vast knowledge and support I offer families is second to none. As a Registered Childminder, everyone who lives in my home over 16 have been fully disclosure checked. I also have Public Liability Insurance in place with SCMA, and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as I am a business owner who processes personal information. This is law under the Data Protection Act 2018. My car is also ensured for business use.

I adopt the Curiosity Approach within my setting, allowing children to learn in a way that is right for them. The Curiosity Approach aims to create 'thinkers & doers' by putting the child at the centre of their own development and education. Modern toys and technology are removed from the learning environment and replaced with everyday items to encourage children's natural curiosity and eagerness to explore and create

My Experience

Whilst Childminding, I enrolled with West Lothian College in 2008 to further my knowledge of child development and education. I achieved an SVQ3 in Children's Care, Learning & Development in 2009. I thrived to learn more in this field and continued my studies and achieved an HND in Childhood Practice in 2011. I had a break from studying after gaining an HND; but decided to push myself further in 2017. I was granted an unconditional place with Dundee University, where I achieved my Degree in BA Childhood Practice in 2019. As my children grew older, I decided to give up childminding in 2019, and flew the nest and became a Nursery Manager of a private nursery in Livingston. This was a step out with my comfort zone and a personal challenge to myself. Throughout my job as a Manager, I developed myself further both in confidence and knowledge such as leading a team, being responsible for all administrative duties associated with the nursery, maintaining children's records, ordering equipment, payroll, and keeping personnel records. Throughout my time at the nursery, I also worked through the pandemic in March 2020 which posed its own issues and barriers. The nursery however thrived through the pandemic under my management and achieved good grades (4) from The Care Inspectorate across all aspects of the New Quality Framework in June 2022. On reflection however, as much as I thrived for the daily challenge of management, I missed being hands on with children as a Childminder, - so in August 2022, I have decided to enter back into the world of childminding, once again!

Melanie is a fantastic childminder, very easy to get along with and also very welcoming, treats each child as in individual and i can not fault in any way. Loved getting Lewis's development reports home and his little folder with all his pictures included, Such a brilliant childminder!! Pleasure to have you as a childminder :-D x

Choosing Melanie as my 1 year old daughters childminder was the best decision I ever made :) The service has been brilliant from the moment we met.
She is very professional, approachable and has worked great with us as parents as well as the care for my child.
I can go to work knowing that my daughter is being well looked after, well fed and most of all is safe and having lots of fun!
They are constantly out and about from the farm, library, parks, garden play, walks and so much more.
We get our daily update diary which is great to read on her progress, a private fb page and monthly newsletters all are a great in sight to see what your child is getting up to when you are not there.
If you are lucky enough to get a space with Melanie you won't be disappointed.
