About Us

I am proud to welcome you to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. I hope our school website will give our parents, carers and prospective parents an insight into the life of our busy, friendly and vibrant school. As a Catholic school we offer our children the opportunity to grow as young people and encourage them to develop a closer relationship with God in an atmosphere of mutual love and respect.

Together, with our sister parish school, St Catherine’s, St Mary’s educates the children of St Mary’s Parish in Swindon. We work together as a collaborative partnership with me as the Executive Headteacher. This ensures a close working partnership between the schools.

The family of St Mary’s is one in which each member is valued and respected for who they are. We aim to encourage and support the personal growth of each individual through living in our community, which is rooted in Christ and inspired by the Gospels. Our school is a very special place, successful and full of creative energy. Our children are happy and thriving: they have fun and have a passion for learning. They spend their days within a community of love which ensures that their learning journeys are thoughtfully planned with their best interests in mind. Every child is welcomed and valued as a unique member of God's family and all staff are dedicated to providing a stimulating, nurturing and exciting environment.

Our staff are fully committed to providing children with a very broad learning experience, packed with new challenges and long-lasting memories. Our intention is that the children’s desire to learn carries on throughout their lives, continually enriching them and helping them to make the right decisions. Most of all we wish our children to be happy during their time here at school and to fully embrace our key aims as a school. This means that we want our children to live confident, healthy, fulfilling and safe lives. We want them to grow to be responsible citizens, living the Gospel values and able to make a positive contribution to society.

We believe that working in partnership with parents, carers, governors, and our parish community is critical to ensuring our success. A family atmosphere is fostered within which children feel confident to express their individuality, their talents and know that success in any aspect of their lives will be rewarded and celebrated.

Parents have a very important role to play in the education of their children and we actively encourage close co-operation between home and school. We value and build on the experience and knowledge which children bring from their home lives.

In June 2015, Ofsted graded St Mary’s as ‘good’ and identified many outstanding features; an achievement of which we are very proud. Behaviour was particularly strong and OFSTED judged Pupils’ behaviour to be outstanding, and their attitudes to learning as excellent. Our Section 48 (RE) Report graded the school as ‘OUTSTANDING’ in every area – a report that we are also most proud of. The diocesan inspectors noted that:

‘This is a school where pupils joyfully live out their mission statement, seeing Jesus as the role model for all that they think, say and do within school so that their lives are a living witness to the Gospel. Pupils participate wholeheartedly in all school activities, are respectful to others and are immensely welcoming. The strong Catholic ethos underpins and permeates every aspect of school life as evidenced daily in the relationships between staff, pupils, parents and governors. There is a strong sense of everyone growing in faith together. Pupils are hugely proud of this exceptional Catholic school and take full advantage of the many opportunities it provides to enable them to develop in their faith.’

Above all, we place Jesus, his teachings and his values at the centre of what we do. Our first statement in our Mission Statement says that:

Jesus is our role model in how we act towards each other, in how we think of each other and in what we say to each other.

This is lived out in our daily work at school and through our worship and prayer life. We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and find all the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school with any queries you may have.
