About Us
The Steiner Academy Hereford is a mainstream school with provision for children from rising 4 to 16. It is a small school with 26 places per year group and is situated in a small village in south Herefordshire.
The education on offer at the school follows the distinctive and international Steiner curriculum. Children spend their first 3 years at school in a mixed age kindergarten before they begin their formal school experience at rising 7 when they start Class 1, when they are formally introduced to literacy and numeracy skills. In Class 1 the children have two full school days and only by Class 4 do they have lessons every day till 15.30.
Admission to the school at rising-5 is administered by the LA and children who are allocated a place then are guaranteed a place through to 16. Because it is an all-through school there is no admission point at 11. Applications for school transfers are welcomed at any time. There are waiting list for most year groups.
Our Childcare Provision
: the school has pre-statutory provision for 20 rising-4 year olds. These children are the youngest in one of the four mixed-aged kindergartens on site that each have their own facilities, their own secure and well-designed outdoor space and of course their own kindergarten teacher. The kindergarten day begins at 8.45 and ends at 13.00. Parents are responsible for their child's childcare arrangements in the afternoon.
The focus of the Steiner Early Years curriculum is on pre-numeracy skills including speech, physical co-ordination and social and emotional skills which they learn through creative and undirected play, interwoven with a carefully crafted programme of 'coming together' activities, such as circle time or a 'doing' activity. The learning environment is unhurried, stress-free and calm with an emphasis on natural materials and the outdoors and supporting the child's world of the imagination.
