About Me

I have just graduated from the university of Edinburgh with a degree in psychology. I am creative, fun and patient and love working with people and helping others. I also love the outdoors. I am musical, I can play the harp and piano, I also love to read, paint and do arts and crafts and would be happy to do any of these things with the children.

My Experience

July 2023 - August 2023 The Yard, Support Worker.
Outline
This position required supporting a young person 1-1 each week. The goal of the summer camp is to provide a fun, supportive environment for young people with disabilities. A positive attitude was required as well as a creative mind, to make the most of the resources available in order to get it right for every child.

Key responsibilities
• Responsible for the daily needs of a young person, including personal care.
• Each week, learning each young person’s likes and dislikes in order to give them the best possible experience.
• Ensuring I had up-to-date knowledge of the young person’s records for moving and handling, whether this be supporting them into a walker, hoist, onto a chair or the floor.
• Assisting with the planning of activities such as outdoor messy play or group play such as ceilidhs or wheelchair painting.
• Responsible for the assisting children with eating, ensuring safety at all times.
• Forming positive professional relationships with parents and guardians of the young people. This required strong communication skills.

February 2021 – July 2022 Privately employed, Nanny.
Outline
For 3-4 days a week I nannied a 2-year-old boy while his parents worked. The role required flexibility and commitment as I was often needed to provide care at short notice. Intermittently, I have also worked as a nanny for a family with a 10-year-old girl with Down’s Syndrome and a neurotypical 6-year-old boy.

2017 - Present The National Autistic Society, Voluntary Social Group Leader.
Outline
This position involved supporting social groups that allowed people with autism to socialise with a familiar group of people, both in-person and online. Recently, I have led post-diagnostic groups for adolescents which help them to navigate an autism diagnosis in a safe environment.

Key responsibilities
• Vigilantly being aware of any safe-guarding concerns that may be flagged during the group conversations and reporting them to the relevant personal.
• Ensuring each member of the group has a voice and feels comfortable to express themselves.
• Helping group members to interact with each other, making friends and a community who they are able to turn to for support.
