About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Kayleigh. I have a huge passion in caring for and supporting children and their needs. I would describe myself as a kind and caring individual, with a bubbly and positive nature.

In my spare time I love going for walks (particularly in the sunshine!) , running, yoga, cooking/ baking, reading, blogging, travelling, studying personal development, and listening to music and podcasts.

I have a full and clean UK driving licence, which I have had since April 2014. I also have my own car, which I always have access to whenever required.

I also have lots of qualifications and experience related to working with children, young people and families, which I have wrote about in the sections below.

If you have any questions, or would like to know more about me, then please feel free to reach out and give me a message.

My Experience

I have lots of experience working with children. I have worked in nurseries and schools, both in voluntary roles and as an employee, and involved working with children between the ages of 3 months-11 years.

Whilst at university studying my degree, I did a work placement with resources for autism where I supported a child with autism, as part of a respite care package. I really enjoyed gaining this experience, and allowed me to gain experience that I hadn't previously had.

I also volunteered for Childline as an email counsellor for children. This role involved responding to incoming emails and provide appropriate advice and support on a wide range of different things.

Furthermore, I did a placement with the children's society as a wellbeing officer whilst at university. The centre I volunteered at was open to anyone up to the age of 25, and allowed the child/ young person to walk into the centre without an appointment in order to get information and support. My job was to greet the individuals that came in, and then offer them one to one support. I also ran some of the workshops, as much as I could around studies and my part time work.

In the summer of 2016, I also worked as a group leader/ activity instructor at PGL. PGL is an outdoor activity holiday camp for children and young people. I was an activity instructor teaching a variety of activities from archery to quad biking, to various age groups. I was also a group leader. This involved being in charge of a group of children for the duration of their stay on site. I worked for PGL whilst on my summer break from university to gain further experience to support my learning and abilities.

I also have lots of experience working with adults, both young and old. Between 2018-2019, I worked as a support worker. This role involved supporting four young adults that have learning disabilities in their home and day to day life. I ensured I helped the individuals to live their lives in a way that makes sense to them , but without taking their independence. Instead I would encourage and support it as often as I could. The Main responsibilities and tasks included supporting them out in the community and with their daily activities, household tasks like cooking and cleaning, and administering daily medication in line with the company protocol and policy.

For the last two years, I have also worked as a domiciliary care assistant. This role involves looking after and caring for children and adults in their own homes. The tasks involved but not limited to included; delivering personal care, medication, doing shopping, cleaning, companionship and communicating with their families.

My Qualifications

I completed the level 3 CACHE diploma qualification in Childcare and Education in 2014, which was a two year course. This means I am a fully qualified level 3 childcare practitioner. I also have a level 3 certificate in Childcare and Education. For the qualification, many units were studied. 12 units were studied in total, each covering different things. Units included; development from conception to 16 years, keeping children safe, play and learning in children's education, working with babies from birth to twelve months, and many more. This means I have a wide range of knowledge on important things to consider, when working with children in order to effectively meet their wide range of needs.

I also have a level 3 award in supporting teaching and learning in schools. This qualification helped me to learn about the things that need to be carried out, in order to effectively work with children and meet their needs in relation to their learning and development. This qualification was more linked to situations in the school environment, due to it being a teaching assistant qualification.

I also have GCSE's. These were completed in June 2012. My GCSE's are:
- Health and Social care: AA
- Psychology: B
-Religious studies: B
-Drama- B
-ICT: B
-Food Technology: B
-English Language: B
-English Literature: A
-Child Development: A
-Science: Merit ( equivalent to B)
-Dance: Pass ( Equivalent to C)
-Maths-C
-German and French- merit ( equivalent to a B)

In 2015-2018, I studied at Newman University a degree in working with children, young people and families and achieved a 2:1 grade. Many topics were studied and also did lots of work experience.

I also have a level 3 functional skills qualification in English Language, and completed an AS level qualification in English Language.
I have also done the First Aid Essentials course, meaning I know what to do if any unexpected accidents or injuries occur.
In my free time, I have also completed courses to increase my knowledge, and learning new things is something I really enjoy. I have completed a certificate in mental health, and also in counselling skills. In my range of roles I've carried out, I've also done lots of additional learning including; administering medication safely, autism, positive behaviour support, and many more.
