My Experience

I first babysat at the age of 14 and have helped my siblings when their children were born and continue to have a huge imput in their lives.
My eldest niece is 39 and the youngest is 16.
I have 11 nieces and nephews.
For the last 21 years, I have been a God Mother and I have helped to raise and discipline them. Their mum is a lone parent and I have experienced them as new born babies, going through sleepless nights, teething, weaning, illnesses, bed wetting, tantrums, baby massage etc, which also included emotional support to them and their mum at any time of the day or night. I have also encouraged for them to have regular contact with their father after the break up of their parents relationship.
I began my career in Social Care over 30 years ago, working in a Rest Home for the elderly at the age of 16, living & working away from family & friends.
I began my Childcare Career In 1990 when I took up a succession of placements working as a Nanny.
In 1995 I decided to expand my skills to work with older children and young people. I joined Calderdale M.B.C. Social Services Dept as a Residential Worker.
In my first post as a Residential Worker I worked with young people aged 14-18 years with complex needs and challenging behaviour. Here I took on Key worker responsibilities and helped to develop care plans and liaised with several different agencies including Youth Offending Teams and The Look After Children In Education Teams. I worked within 4 different units until 2002 when I was deployed to the Looked after Children Team in the role of Social Work Assistant. Here I supervised contact, conducted risk assessments and did report writing.
I then worked for the Leaving Care Team where I worked as a Tenancy Support Worker helping young people leaving the Care System to secure appropriate tenancies through good letting agents or private landlords, manage their first tenancies and support them to be a good tenant. This included applying for their Leaving Care Grant and applying for the benefits which they were entitled to. I supported them to get the items for their home on a limited amount of money and worked out a budget plan for them.
I then began working for Beresford Blake Thomas as an Education Welfare Officer with Education Leeds; here I was supporting young people at risk of being excluded from mainstream education.
More recently, I was on a temporary contract with Calderdale Social Services. This role involved carrying a case load, facilitating and supervising contact sessions between children and families and liaising with Social Workers.
From August 2009-July 2010,I went on to work for Barnardos as a Family Support Worker and in this role I worked with Teenage Parents and Parents to be from the age of 16 -24 and carried a case load of 16. I worked with a variety of pregnant teenagers, their partners, children and young parents and their partners and children or single parents and parents to be. This involved working on a one to one at times or group basis if they are being supported by myself to either Ante Natal or a Young Parents group which are held weekly at different locations within my district area. They are also supported to a wide range of courses which are held by outside agencies and Young Families throughout Wakefield.
I was in my previous role with Action For Children, as a Family Support Worker from December 2010 - March 2012.
I have worked in close partnership with Mid-wives, Health Visitors, Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Solicitors , Open Door Homeless Prevention,Teenage Project, Letting and Rental Agents, Private Landlords, Connexions, Job Centres, Health Trainers, Benefits agency, Utility companies etc.
I have previously been a Specialist Foster Carer
I am professional and conscientious and supportive in my working practice.
I am therefore able to use my skills and knowledge in a supportive setting and from my own life experiences.
I have always felt that we all need positive role models and good influences and support networks in our lives regardless of our backgrounds or differences of culture and religion sexuality or disability or disadvantages.
I believe that everyone should be treated equally and everyone deserves the right to be heard, listened to, respected regardless of age, and given the opportunities to give them the best outcomes in their lives.

Below are the latest reviews for Tally. Please note that reviews represent the subjective opinions of other Childcare.co.uk users and not of Childcare.co.uk. Parents must carry out their own checks and references on childcare providers to ensure that they are completely happy before enaging in the use of their services.

Tally has been with us for 2 separate long periods whilst my husband and I have worked on 2 contracts.
I have had no worries about reliability or care giving. My children have been safe at all times in Tally's care. She has been very conscientious in her treatment of my 3 children. She has great understanding of each of their different personalities and is concerned that they are all happy. Tally has been firm about homework and reading tasks. She has also ensured that any jobs required have been done by the children. She has been imaginative when cooking food and helpful with odd housekeeping jobs. The house is always tidy when I return from work.
I would not hesitate to recommend Tally as a caregiver. We are only letting her go as I will be spending several months at home. I feel that my children have gained someone who they will be able to rely on going forward and who luckily for us all lives nearby.

Tally has been doing preschool pickups and bedtimes for our three year old for over a month now. She has also done some weekend baby sitting and full day adventures. I can’t recommend her enough. She is the most qualified and attentive childcare provider we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Our son adores her and shouts ‘hooray’ when we say she is picking him up. She is thoughtful, kind, firm and caring. I trust her explicitly. Tally took great care to get to know our son, gently and carefully introducing herself. She set up gentle systems to make him feel safe. She understands how hard it is when his parents work away from him and she gives him love and attention. I also love how she respects his boundaries, offering him affection choices and most patient of care. Tally is also firm, fair and I have no doubt would be strict should it require. I feel genuinely very lucky to have found her and we will continue to use whenever we can.

Tally has extensive childcare experience, including working with children and young people with additional needs. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her as trustworthy, reliable and fun; she looked after my two children after school at out home for several months, and I still contact her for ad hoc care and babysitting.

Tally was kind enough to come at very short notice to babysit our lively 4 1/2 year-old son for 2 evenings in a hotel in the centre of Leeds. We felt immediately comfortable about leaving him with her as it was obvious from the get-go that her warm and engaging personality mirrored our inquisitive son's whilst at the same time being firm and imaginative with the relatively limited surroundings (a large hotel room). We can not thank her enough as she allowed us to have some leisure time whilst being fully reassured that our little boy was in good hands. Our only regret is that we had to leave Tally behind when we left to go back to Switzerland but it goes without saying that we shall be in touch again very soon. We wish to extend a formal invitation to her to come and visit us in Geneva as our son was very sad about leaving his new friend behind....

Tally has worked with my family now for over nearly two months .

She has become a valuable member to our family - my two adore Tally and my 23 month old constantly ask after her. She has encouraged my two a 12 month old and 23 month old to read and to be able to enjoy turning pages instead of eating them.

She is considerate and works hard to maintain constant trust and recognises it's maintenance not just being friendly - she is constantly thinking of new ways to encourage the little ones to play In objective ways. So instead of just throwing things they like rolling and manoeuvring. Tally is literally a one woman nursery!
