About Me
We are a family of four living in the seaside village of Downderry, South East Cornwall - we have a daughter aged 14 who is autistic and a son who is 12 and has physical and developmental disabilities.
My Requirements
We are looking for childcare support from a reliable, gentle and kind person.
We have two children, a daughter aged 14 who is autistic and is home educated, and a son aged 12, who has physical disabilities, learning disabilities, is non-speaking and attends a special school.
Our daughter is a keen climber, loves to paint, is academically gifted and very creative.
Our son loves to swim, being read to, watching Sesame Street and is very cheeky and full of fun.
We are looking for 1-2 people who have experience caring for children with disabilities (or who are interested in learning and undertaking training that will be funded).
The role would involve:
During term time:
- supporting our son with getting up, dressed and ready for school, including all aspects of personal care, using ceiling track hoist system for lifting, preparing and feeding breakfast, handing over to his taxi and PA in the morning for the journey to school.
- supporting our daughter and providing her with companionship during the mornings while she is doing her home study.
- driving our daughter to activities and taking her on outings e.g. for walks / for outdoor learning / art trips.
- helping with batch cooking/preparing pureed meals for our son to a set of simple recipes.
- helping with creating communications materials for both children using symbols and laminator.
During school holidays (as above but both children will be at home during the day):
- being an extra pair of hands to help us as parents in meeting the needs of both children while also juggling work (we both work from home). This might involve taking our son for a walk in his wheelchair, feeding him, attending to his personal care, playing with him. Or maybe taking our daughter out to go to the gym, or for a walk somewhere locally. It may also involve accompanying one parent to take one or both children out on a trip / to go swimming etc. You would only be responsible for one child at a time.
The role will also require a bit of tidying up and cleaning after each of the children, due to their additional needs.
We are looking for two-three days a week, hours 7-3. And potentially an evening a week too.
Happy to discuss options for the right person. You will receive moving and handling training on how to use all disability equipment in the home including ceiling track hoists, lifts and bath hoist.
Car driver essential due to rural seaside location 30 minutes outside of Plymouth. Fuel costs to and from family home in Downderry will be covered plus any insurances required. Enhanced DBS required. This is a self-employed role.
