About Me
Hi there. My name is Oshan (pronounced Ocean) and I am a British born, 26 year old female based in Hastings. I have my own full driving license and access to a car and I am happy to be DBS checked by any future employer. In my spare time I engage in creative activities such as painting and jewellery making. I have a first class degree in art and I and a lover of English - I often write poetry in my own time and read non-fiction and I have exceptional English skills. I am passionate about learning and encouraging others to learn. I also put others before my own needs and try to make someone smile at least once a day!
My Experience
My experience as a nanny and child minder has enabled me to build a particular relationship with children appropriate for the age group. I previously work with three children aged between 5-8 for 6 years, providing activities that stimulated and supported their social, emotional and language development such as taking them to regular social activities such as beavers/brownies, engaging in creative tasks such as arts and crafts and supporting with homework. I also engaged in reading and writing activities with one child with a speech impediment to help develop her language.
Some highlights of my strengths include:
¥ Exceptional literacy skills – able to help child with speech impediment how to read and write to standard of her age
¥ Able to work with children from 3 years of age and above
¥ I am an understanding and empathetic individual who strongly considers creative aspects to learning and educational development for kinesthetic learners.
¥ Organised and cooperative – able to balance multiple tasks at once
Additionally, working previously a support worker and healthcare assistant for service users with mental health and learning difficulties has also contributed to my role of a nanny. This role enabled me to work one to one with service users who suffered from personality disorders, fragile X syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. On a typical day I would:
- Administer medication to service users (supervised).
- Support them with their personal care and hygiene (showering, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting ect).
- Support them with daily activities and taking them to external support groups such as outreach.
- Cooked healthy and balanced meals and often involved more capable service users in the process.
- Thoroughly cleaned their bathrooms, toilets and kitchen to ensure maximum safety of the service users.
All of which I enjoyed doing as I loved seeing a smile on their faces when they had had a fulfilled day or had been involved in activities they love doing, such as playing solitaire or gardening.
My Qualifications
• 10 GCSEs A*-C accomplished at Rosebery School in 2013.
• 3 full A Levels in English Language and Literature (B), Art and Design (B) and Sociology (D) achieved 2015.
• BA Hons in art and design, first class
• MSc in project management for creative practitioners, merit
My Availability
Weekdays, all day. Happy to do some overnight stays.
