About Me
Hi! My name is Diane and I live in Thornhill, Cardiff.
I am a happily married mother of 3 wonderful girls. My youngest daughter is studying Medicine at Cambridge University. The other 2 have also flown the nest, but fortunately are both living nearby. I also have 4 grandchildren, which are a major part of my life and a Siamese cat that I absolutely adore.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, walking and running. I am extremely organized and this is reflected in both my home and work life.
I am a qualified teacher who taught for over 20 years in an Independent school and also taught in LEA schools prior to this. I am passionate about Education and every child reaching their full potential.
At the present time I am working in a local school doing 1:1 support alongside doing a few private tutoring sessions. This is usually carried out in my home . During the COVID outbreak I was able to change to doing this online. This has now allowed for more flexibility where lessons can be carried out either face to face, online or a combination of both. I would prefer to do face to face lessons as I think this is more advantageous but I am flexible to suit individual needs.
As well as doing my regular weekly tutoring, I am also available over the holiday for pupils who may wish to have a few lessons (face to face or online) before they return to school. Online lessons are conducted via skype.
I am keen to provide alongside parents and school, additional support that will enable all children to gain in confidence and achieve their full potential.
With regards to my tutoring work I usually teach English and reading.
I would be willing to include some Maths teaching in lessons, for pupils who are in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, if requested.
Reading and developing reading skills is something I am particularly interested in and passionate about teaching. I am particularly keen to promote the phonic approach. I believe all children should be encouraged and given the opportunity to develop their reading skills alongside promoting a love of books and reading.
Development and improvement in handwriting, comprehension skills, spelling, grammar, etc. are areas of English that are covered in lessons.
In all lessons pupils are motivated and praised, which promotes self-esteem and progress.
I also do some babysitting and nannying work. With regards to this I am able to care appropriately for your child .
I am a mature person , rather than a youngster and have had a range of different experiences with babies, toddlers and children.
I always take my 'Busy Box' with me, when babysitting or nannying. This always fascinates children as it always contains a range of exciting and stimulating items. (sensory items, books, art and craft activities, puzzles, language and maths games, activities to develop fine motor skills, etc) All the items are planned and prepared carefully before I arrive, to suit your child and his/her requirements.
My Experience
I have experience of teaching in Local Education Authority schools and also worked as a class teacher for over 20 years in an independent school in the Cardiff area.
I have taught Nursery, Foundation Phase, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I also have experience of teaching English Second Language pupils and also children with Additional Learning Needs.
As a mother of 3 children, as well as being sensitive and experienced with dealing with children, I can also relate to the needs of parents.
Lots of my experience and skills as a mother and teacher I have found to be invaluable and this has definitely been of great benefit with the work I do .
Children are unique individuals and every day they put a smile on my face. I genuinely love spending time working with them and being involved in their development.

During School holiday times I am available on all days, apart from when I take my annual holiday during the school summer holiday.

I am also available at certain times for working as a nanny or babysitter.
