My Experience

Private nannying:

I worked as a full-time, nanny for a wonderful family of six children, ranging in age from 6
months to 15 years old (ages when started) I was with the family for over 2 years, during which I
became a trusted and reliable part of their daily routine.
My primary responsibility was the full-time care of the 2-year-old and 4 year old. ( ages when
left) I created a nurturing, engaging environment by offering age-appropriate, fun learning
activities that encouraged development through play. I regularly organised outings such as visits
to soft play centres, the zoo, parks, nature walks, and playdates. Exploring muddy puddles was a
particular favourite! I encouraged hands-on activities like baking to support independence, motor
skills, and confidence.
Each day, I prepared healthy, balanced meals for all of the children and ensured the kitchen and
main living areas were clean and tidy before the parents took over in the evening. While the
mother worked from home—or was occasionally away—I handled additional responsibilities,
including getting the older children ready for school, managing school runs, light housework, and
overseeing after-school routines

I consistently worked over 40 hours a week and was happy to support the family with extra
hours or additional days when needed. After the family relocated to Norfolk, I stayed in the home
during the week and returned to my own home at weekends to maintain consistent support.
I was known for being hardworking, trustworthy, and easygoing—qualities that helped me build
strong, respectful relationships with both the parents and the children. I truly valued the
opportunity to give each child the attention, care, and quality time they deserved.
While I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the family and built strong bonds with both the children
and parents, the live-in nanny arrangement ultimately wasn’t the right long-term fit for me. After
thoughtful consideration, I made the decision to return home permanently and explore
opportunities that allow me to maintain a better balance between work and personal life.
I am currently working as an Ofsted-registered nanny, supporting multiple families with children
aged from 8 months to around 4 years. Each family I work with has its own unique dynamic, and I
pride myself on being adaptable—respecting individual parenting styles, routines, and values to
ensure consistency and comfort for the children.
I provide fun, age-appropriate activities that support development across all areas, from sensory
play and early literacy to imaginative games and creative crafts. Outdoor learning is something I
value deeply, and I prioritise getting children out into the real world—whether that’s through
nature walks, local outings, or exploring the parks.

From the beginning of my career in childcare:

I began my childcare career as an apprentice and steadily progressed to become a qualified Level
3 nursery practitioner, room leader, third in charge, and eventually Deputy Manager. Each step in
my journey has provided me with invaluable hands-on experience, shaping me into the confident,
adaptable and reflective early years professional I am today.
As Deputy Manager, I was proud to be someone my manager could rely on fully. I took on a wide
range of responsibilities including mentoring staff, supporting them through planning system
changes, and helping to implement new frameworks effectively. I introduced and rolled out
updated health and safety daily operations manuals across all rooms, ensuring staff were
confident in their roles, and that rooms were safe, clean, and running smoothly.
While in a leadership role, I was still deeply involved in room-based practice. I remained
passionate about working directly with the children, showcasing my creativity, nurturing
approach, and love for learning through play. I believe in giving every child the best possible start
by respecting their individual needs and enabling them to grow at their own pace. I consistently
promote independence in the children I care for—supporting them to self-serve, wash hands, and
carry out small tasks. Encouraging these life skills from an early age helps build confidence,
resilience, and a sense of responsibility.
Becoming a full-time nanny was a long-term goal of mine—and it’s been one of my proudest
achievements. It has given me the opportunity to create deeper bonds with children, support
families more personally, and deliver truly high-quality, one-to-one care. I love being able to
spend meaningful time with each child, teaching and growing alongside them, while creating a
calm and stimulating home environment.
