About Me

I am a 23 year old actor from Scotland. I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies, receiving a 2.1 MA (Hons) from the University of Glasgow in 2021. I am a keen writer, actor and musician. I would say that I am a positive and energetic person who likes to have fun.

I'm originally from Aberdeen, completed my undergraduate degree in Glasgow and I now work in London, having completed my MA Acting degree at East 15 Acting School.

I have worked with groups of 11-12 year olds as a musical theatre advisor, as well as an English advisor for 14-15 year olds. I'm quite a big kid myself, enjoying Disney films far too much for a 21 year old, geeking out to Dr Who or Lord of the Rings and playing board games for days.
I currently work part-time as a teacher with a children's drama school called Perform, working with children aged 4-12 to improve their confidence and inspire their passions for singing, dancing and storytelling.

I know that everyone will say that they are confident, enthusiastic and hard working. I want to say that I am all of these things as well. But I don't think it helps unless I tell you that I am encouraging and patient as well. With both of my parents working as teachers, I've heard a lot about working with children over the years. As a tutor, not only do I establish goals for the pupil but for myself. I believe that one of the most important aspects to a child's learning experience is their confidence. I aim to create a teaching environment that both challenges and encourages children to exercise their knowledge, giving them a confidence in their own ability. As a babysitter, my priority is making sure the child(ren) feel safe and comfortable for me to be with them, in their own space without a parent, a prospect I know can feel a bit scary. My past experience has meant that I have been able to establish a bond between myself and the child(ren) in my care, which is something I really think helps me to provide a safe and enjoyable service.

I am not currently registered on the PVG Scheme; however, I completed a DBS check in 2019 when I worked at a summer language school, acting as an Activity Leader for groups of young adults. This involved supervising them on bus journeys from Heriot Watt University (where we were based) into Edinburgh, providing walking tours and generally introducing the children from countries such as Italy and Russia to Scottish culture.

My Experience

From 2016-2018, I regular babysat for a family who have connections with my old school. The children were 2 girls who were aged 7 and 11 when I first began babysitting for the family. On a normal night, I would: go round to their house between 6-6:30pm and eat dinner with the girls, watch a movie followed by a board game, help the girls go to bed at around 8:30 and then remain in the house until the parents came home (usually between 12-1am). I found it very easy to babysit the girls since I saw them quite regularly and there was a definite bond of trust established between myself, the parents and the girls. It has been brilliant seeing how the girls are growing up and helping them with the odd bit of homework and reading here and there. I also looked after a 14 year old girl a few times, again the daughter of a teacher from my school.

Although I have no specific experience with private tutoring, I have a lot of experience in helping others to learn. During my sixth year at school, I helped out with an S3 English class. I would spend one 40 minute period a week with the same class helping any way I could, including proof-reading essays and occasionally leading the lesson. As well as this, I took part in a reading scheme between the Junior and Senior Schools called JASPARs (Junior And Senior Paired Assisted Reading) which aims to help younger children gain confidence and increase their ability to read independently. I was paired with an 8 year old boy called Callum who struggled to understand what he was reading and had a habit of skimming or missing out words. I devised a way of limiting Callum's view of the words, so that he could only focus on one word at a time, thereby slowing him down and making him concentrate. We also came up with a system whereby, if he had sat still the entire session and stuck to the speed we set, he would get a smiley face in his book. By the end of our time together, Callum had grown so much in his ability to read and his confidence in himself. It was amazing to see how the small help I'd given him had given him confidence and allowed him to enjoy reading.
