Childminder in London: Havering
My Summary
About Me
I am an Ofsted registered childminder at Oak Glen Childminding, Paediatric First Aid trained and a fully qualified Teacher (QTS). I currently hold a CACHE level 3 award in Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare and hold a valid DBS. I am a member of PACEY (Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years) and an authorised user of the Havering Education Services portal which enables me to keep well-informed with changes and updates in terms of continuous professional development and training. As a result, best practice is always adhered to within Oak Glen childminding. I have high expectations and standards for every child in my care and aim to nurture their learning, development and welfare in conjunction with the Early Years Statutory Framework.
At Oak Glen we have a spacious self-contained classroom with a multi-sensory zone, WOW wall, craft area and mood lighting. Facilities within the classroom area also include a bathroom, self-service dining and refreshment area, 6 metre bi-fold door opening to allow transitional indoor/outdoor free flowing play. In addition, there is over 150 foot of outdoor space mainly laid to lawn for children to explore, develop their gross motor skills and stimulate a healthy active lifestyle. There are a vast range of resources and equipment both indoors and outside that allow for all seven EYFS areas of learning and development to be pursued. My overall aim as a parent myself is to encapsulate a fun, enriching, caring, safe, attentive, homely and trustworthy environment that I would feel reassured to use for the care of my own children.
My Experience
Since gaining my initial Childminder Ofsted registration I have received one inspection which was graded as 'Good' in August 2022. Since then I have been approved for a new Childcare on Domestic Premises (CODP) registration by Ofsted in January 2023 and so I have not had an inspection within the current cycle. Although as a fully qualified Teacher within the secondary school sector I have experienced several Ofsted Inspections during my 14 years of teaching. Cultural capital has been added to Ofsted's new Education Inspection Framework (EIF). “Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for their future success”. At Oak Glen childminding, I provide a vast array of experiences which allow every child to gain independence, a love of learning and a fundamental cultural capital.

I’ve had bad experiences with childminder before when they just let them play and don’t actually follow any curriculum. Katie is amazing to ensure all developmental milestones are exercised. They are sooo creative with their activities. Each week there is a new theme. They have trips out and visitors. I could not be happier here. I’m very lucky to have found her. They are great with communication and really fourth-coming with embracing and even celebrating other cultural events. The team all work so hard. They are really fair with their fee’s. Really flexible which exactly what i needed. Would 100% unequivocally recommend!

We moved to the area almost three months ago and started our son at OakGlen during what was quite a sensitive time for him. He was going through toilet training, adjusting to a new home, a new city, and suddenly everything around him was unfamiliar. As parents, we were naturally anxious about how he would cope , but we truly couldn’t have chosen a better nursery.
From day one, the team at OG have been incredibly caring, kind, and supportive. They made such a big effort to help him settle in and feel safe. We have seen such wonderful progression in him in such a short time, and that gives us enormous reassurance and happiness.
One thing we especially appreciate is the daily feedback. We are always informed about what he has been doing, how he has been feeling, what he has eaten, and the activities he has participated in. It makes us feel connected to his day and confident that he is in great hands.
The nursery provides a fantastic variety of food and snacks throughout the day, which is another big plus. The children are offered so many different activities, and I really love that they can choose what they would like to take part in based on their age group and interests.
I have also recently attended their coffee mornings where parents can join the children during activities. Seeing firsthand how much care, energy, and effort the staff put into looking after these energetic little ones was truly eye-opening. The level of dedication and organisation is impressive.
We are so grateful that we found Occlan. It has made such a positive difference for our son and for us as parents. A huge thank you to the whole team, we couldn’t be happier.

We couldn’t be happier with the care our son receives here. He’s 23 months old and has been attending for about a year now, and he absolutely loves it. The variety of activities, the structured daily schedule, and the balance of playtime and garden time keep him engaged and excited to go each day.
One thing that really reassures us is the level of care and attention given to his severe food allergies. The staff take this very seriously, and it gives us real peace of mind knowing he is safe and well looked after. It’s also clear they genuinely care about the little ones, we know he’s comforted and supported whenever he needs it.
He is learning so much during his time here at OG and constantly comes home with new skills and words he’s been taught by the staff. Little things, like bringing us his dirty plate after meals, show just how much he’s developing with their guidance.
We’re so happy with his care and would highly recommend this setting to any parents looking for a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for their child.
